Re: Braid that casts well without digging in

Dig-ins are going to happen. Jacking a fish on a Hooksett while flippin, snag, etc. Also depends on speed your reel lays down the line (levelwind), width of your spool, and how you are packed. For example, I don't have issue with line dig on resistance lures as there is tension coming back, but for ...

Re: gander mountain line

I picked up 10lb 200yds of their Floro this week. They were clearing them out for $7-ish.
Although it may be a few weeks, I'll update this post when I get to testing it. I plan on using it for Neko and Shaky rig.

Re: Daiwa J-Braid???

I've been using 30lb J-Braid since the beginning of this year. Line is very quiet and smooth. Can cast very far with it. I still use PP, but J-Braid is my new favorite.

They cast the same at 1/2oz to me. Structure and cover determines which one I will use most of the time although both are quite all-purpose.

Re: I am looking for a new reel

Welcome to the forum.

I would go with the Tatula for $100. A second would be the Citica I.

You can get the >$300 reels later, but this should slowly ease you into the addiction. :big grin:

Re: Daiwa J-Braid???

J-Braid casts well and comes off the line nice and smooth. I'm impressed with this (30lb ) line so far. It's only been a couple of weeks, but I'm impressed.
You guys should try it. It's easy on the wallet too.

Re: Molix Jigs

I'm struggling to know when to use the Tenax and the Molix. It would be great if someone could let me know when to use one over the other, especially as they come in the same weights and sizes. I've fished both and here are my thoughts on the Kento and Tenax: Kento: Excels at pitching and flipping....

Re: Best Palming Reel?

The 50E palms very well. A 50E on a first gen Zillion rod palms extremely well. It it just not right though.

Re: Fast vs extra fast- casting differences

If the power and action is similar to past rods, I have the 6'6" med fast Legend Elite (brown blank) and it handles light jigs and t-rigs very well. I feel more accurate and less clumsy with a shorter rod pitching in close quarters like around boat slips.

After many years, still the Powell Max 683C (with a Curado 50E). What it excels at the most is ripping squarebills and scroungers through vegetation.

Re: When the clutch engages in the middle of a cast

It's starting to smooth itself out now, but nowhere near as it original. I'll take her apart in the winter when I do cleaning.

Thanks

When the clutch engages in the middle of a cast

I have a Tatula 100HS. I got overconfident trying to sqeeze out the most distance out of the Tatula and as a result the motion tripped the handle and engaged the clutch. The lure came to an abrupt stop from full speed. It hasn't felt the same on retrieve and casting since. Below are my observations ...

Re: what's everyone's most productive lure?

spinnerbaits, crankbaits, worms, etc? and how do you like to fish it? i'm just curious. i'm losing faith with the soft stick baits. i've fished every imagineable way. tx rig, car rig, weightless, wacky none of them are producing. i also fish around a lot of junk so crankbaits don't work out for me....
