What pound test do you usually use to fish for trout?
I've never been brave enough to venture into using 2lb test
like some of you might be using. 4 is the lowest I'd go and 6 max.
What do you guys use?

Re: Which Fly Combo?
Welcome onboard the forum. A 5wt is great for your needs. Any heavier it will not be good for trout/panfish. And still heavy enough for bass. I have no experience with the Avid series fly rods, but do own a 6wt GL3. It's a decent rod, but after I tried my friend's GLX, I didn't like my GL3 because I...

Don't worry, as time passes, you'll get your money's worth.
Keep at it. With that price of a package, I'm sure you have
something you enjoy casting all day for trout.

You can't go wrong with what you're doing. Instead of mepps, I prefer
Panther martins in the small size.

Re: new UL rod
While the airrus rods look powerful for bass fishing and others, I don't think the larger butt section will be good as an ultralight rod. It just won't feel like a traditional ultralight that I truly enjoy fishing with for small trout. Reno Reeler made a good suggestion for the Premier series. Also ...

Trout in freezing weather
Some places I fish are high up in the mountain, the rivers dry up or
is really low during the Fall, and am sure it freezes over in the winter time.
I do see some trout trapped in shallow pools. do you think they just die
when frozen or they somehow survive like the frozen lobster thread?

Have you tried your local fly shop?
They can probably point you in the right direction.

Fly fishing for Pike
This I have never tried. Has anyone tried or seen people fly fishing
for pike in their part of woods? Wonder what leader they
use.

Favorite NEW trout lure
This forum has really been remodeled since I last visited.
Great to see it's doing well.
I fly fish and fish lures occassionally, so I would like to hear
if anyone have tried any new trout lures, ones that work
and don work.

SA reels
Fellas, I'm back again yet with another question.
SA makes great lines, but how about their reels?
I just fell in love with their extremely LIGHTWEIGHT
fly reel. Any comments would be appretiated.

IGFA
Are there any members of this forum registered with the IGFA? Are you targeting the "clubs" and "slams" they have? I've just looked at the IGFA Trout Royal Slam Club. You have to catch and release 7 species of trout which are: brook, brown, bull, cutthroat, golden, lake, and rainbow. Let me see. I'v...

Re: Spinning reel for king salmon fishing
Fishing in Alaska seems pretty interesting.
Are many areas protected, off limits to fishing?
Those fly in trips must be amazing. I'll have to
give it a go someday before I die.
