Re: Does a Antares DC MD XG feel geary brand new?

Any reel with xg gears isn’t going to be as smooth as a slower ratio. I’d expect an antares to be smooth no matter what but nevertheless xg gearing just isn’t as smooth.

Re: questions from a newbie

You’ll be ahead of the game if you will not look at the big picture so much and just start with very basic stuff. Forget the moon phase thing for now and just get a basic understanding of weather but don’t be rigid on any idea or you’ll put yourself in a box and may miss out on some great days. Find...

Not a clue. Seems to have been pretty quiet, so I'm expecting a fairly unexciting Icast this year.
That’s what I’m thinking. I look forward to it like the rest of you all but there’s been almost no chatter about it this year. Hopefully we are blown away.

Re: What have you lost while fishing?

I’ll for sure recognize the rod if it ever did come up because I built it. It’s been several years though now. I do hope though that it was just another donation to Grand Lake.

Re: What have you lost while fishing?

I lost a steez on a rod I had just completed in grand lake. What stinks is I didn’t notice until the next week when I started getting my gear together. THAT would've driven me mad. I wouldn't have slept for a week. That pretty much describes it. Every time I think of it I reply what could have happ...

Re: Wart style baits

As has been mentioned the curve isn’t exactly a wart replacement. Different action altogether. That’s not to say it’s bad but it’s far from the same. I like their paint schemes though. I throw a rock crawler when I want to go deeper. When I want to throw a wart I throw a wart. I have no problem with...

Re: Daiwa T3 1016 Reels today...

I sold all mine last year but my son still has a few. They’re the most underrated Daiwa reel imo. Excellent do everything reel. I had mine for several years and beyond bearings I didn’t touch them.

Re: Recent builds

Thanks for the compliments. I used the 6’9” last Friday throwing a fluke. It worked really well. It’s a very fast blank with plenty of power, perfect for soft jerkbaits.

Abu’s spinning backwards

My son has a blackmax and a Revo x. Occasionally on a hookset, working a lure, or snapping a hung bait free the spool and handle will go the wrong direction causing all kinds of problems obviously. I assume it’s either the one way bearing or the spool isn’t engaging the pinion gear correctly. It’s o...
