Re: what leader????

9 foot leaders are good. If they taper they are even better. Mono if your dry fly fishing fluro if your nymphing or streamer fishing. Having a spool under spooled is better than over spooled for fly line. Attach your tippet to your leader with blood notes and make sure your leader is tapered, it jus...

Re: Sabiki Rig Question

Depends on what species you are going after. I am from the northeast and I generally use them for herring. For herring I do not add any bait, I merely drop it down to the desired depth and vertically jigs it. The size of the hooks and type of lure whether fish skin or wax paper or shrimp shaped lure...

Re: Opinions for a deep sea jigging rod?

depths for cod can reach 300 -400 feet.. sometimes that 24 oz is needed to tether bottom. I hate anything over 16 oz. Shoot I use my rod mainly with 6-10 oz range.. at times ill through on a 12 or 14 when its really deep or a strong current. I rather barely tether bottom than try to reel in a jig la...

Opinions for a deep sea jigging rod?

Jigging for cod, pollock, halibut, rock cod, ling cod. Any type of jigging that involves a 9 oz to 24 oz jig. I am curious to what rods will come up. I have a saratoga stick from shimano that does all right. I fish bait with it too, but I might get another rod strickly for jigging. Any ideas? I hear...

Re: Need source to buy soft mesh netting not whole net

Okay my opinion, go to walmart and buy a laundry bag. cut it to the spects you want or the fit and sew it on for a cheap replacement. But you will not look professional but it does the trick and as long as the net it wet damage to fish should not be siginficiant if your using a soft non abrasion mat...

Re: Best Fly Reel Poll

Well, I do not know if I should vote [ I did though] since I do not have much experience with those listed reel companies with the exception of three; hardy, ross, and abel reels. They are good reels, I see them in the shop from time to time. But only one that holds up in the conditions I've seen bu...

Re: Another new fly fisherman

If you are serious about fly fishing and want to try it out I suggest going with a quality lower price rod. Temple fork outfitters I think have a really good deal. Cheaper rods generally have lack of quality which does not allow you to have a smooth cast especially if you are an inexperienced to fly...
