Re: Ice Fishing
I used to fish spoons tipped w/a piece of worm....or small jigs tipped w/spikes....caught 1000's of fish. This season, I'm ditching the live bait in favor of plastics. I've tried tons of options + narrowed it down to 2. 2 main baits: 1/13 oz cocho cocho tungsten jighead w/3" reins bubbling shaker (p...

Re: Daiwa’s latest LT spinning reels
Legalis 1000 LT is rated for 160 yds of 6 lb test.....so expect closer to 200 yds of 4 lb test.
Also, just saw some new Daiwa UL reels to be released at iCAST...these will be a lower price point reels....
QG 750FK
QR 750FK
Those will be 5.3 oz, 110 yds of 4 lb, 5 lb max drag

Re: Good Small to Micro Cranks
I've seen them as high as $9.99 at BPS, so $4.80 is a good deal.DirtyD64 wrote:I have bought about 4 of each Yo-Zuri Pin's Minnows in sinking from our Wal-Mart. Just have a huge rack of them for some reason. Are they normally expensive? These are like $4.8

Re: Good Small to Micro Cranks
lots of good suggestions above.... the only 1 that i've had trouble with is the Rapala UL shad hook hangers. I've broken 2 of the hook hangers off the rear of the bait on trout. the belly hanger is fine. i don't think there's enough material in the back to really dig the pins into during the molding...

Re: rod for stradic 1000 ci4+ and reel for USDM 7ft presso?
i use a Pflueger Supreme XT 25 on my 7' Presso's. 6 oz. nice drag. i have 2 and they are great for trout + panfish. 4 lb nanofil + fluoro leader. only trouble that I've had is that I needed to fool around with it a bit to get the line lay dialed in. i ended up using some Shimano spool shims to shim ...

Re: Fenwick River Runner
i have 1 RR...i think 6'9" L??
rod is fine, but guides are too small for my taste and limit casting. i only use it for vertical fishing now. any of my other production rods will out cast it.....st croix premier, daiwa presso, etc.

Re: Daiwa Tatula LT1000
I'm going to try 1 of the new Daiwa 1000 reels in the LT series when they go on sale. I have a cheap Daiwa made Cabelas Pro Guide 1000 for icefishing. It's a decent reel for what I paid on sale. I like it, but I don't think it's worth $50. My biggest gripe is the drag performance is poor....probably...

Re: Favourite Nanofil leader knot
FG knots work by digging into the fluoro/mono....with 6 lb nanofil or 4/6 lb leader there's not alot of material to work with....try it & see. the stripers guys are using much heavier gear. i've used nanofil since it came out for trout + panfish....i love it but it has limitations. people either see...

Re: reel problems
agree with the above posters who suggested taking them back. i've had the same issue with other shimano's and returned them. it's not worth trying to figure out an intermittent problem on a brand new reel. 1 of my favorite reels for trout fishing that's still available for sale is the Pflueger Supre...

Re: Ordering a custom five footer
lots of good points in this thread, lots of stuff to consider. gillchaser's already finalized his specs, but for anyone else considering a custom rod....maybe this could be of some help? i build my own custom rods for me and a few friends. i'd suggest it for anybody. you don't need a tremendous amou...

Re: Five Footers
that shiner is a fat little football. would be good pike bait! i mostly use my 5' rods for trout fishing with my daughter. they are more her size. the trout put up a good fight on those little rods. i still use my old Daiwa UL7's on them. so far, she hasn't destroyed them. sand is the enemy. i...

Re: Another 500 size reel option ...
that Daiwa Laguna reel is an older US version. i think the price point was around $30 originally. i never picked 1 up because the reviews were mixed to poor. i've fished the Tica SS500 reels - mostly on ice rods. they were good - nothing too special. i ended up selling mine. the $50 ones were much s...

Re: What's your favorite small jerkbait
they still make the small pin's. they also make the 2 3/4" in sinking....but i haven't seen the suspending pin's in a while. i still have a few yo zuri pin's suspenders and they are my favorites from the series. the 2" sinking was a great trout bait for me, too. lucky craft makes some tiny pointers ...
