Re: First experience with japanese round profile BFSish reel: Shimano Calcutta Conquest 51

I really have a problem over shimano lowering quality and reliability for it's newer reels. Fish a Conquest BFS reel, the new Antares or the Met 20's and you'll quit making every post of yours one about your issues with Shimano. ;) Are you hurting because of my posts? lol So, to have any semblance ...

Re: First experience with japanese round profile BFSish reel: Shimano Calcutta Conquest 51

I recommend fishing and comparing an actual Conquest BFS or even a 2019/2020 Conquest DC. That Calcutta 51 might feel like an underpowered coffee grinder by comparison. I’ve had almost all of the Conquest/TE variations (and most of the other high end round reels from other brands) and for me I thin...

I remember buying the conquest 50DC a few years back, and was amazed at how solid and smooth it felt. Its like that thing was a limited edition millionaire rebranded for Shimano.
Solid, smooth, it's almost like it was made by Daiwa, indeed!

First experience with japanese round profile BFSish reel: Shimano Calcutta Conquest 51

What a superb piece of work, everything on this reel is solid, strong, very high quality. It's almost like it isn't a shimano reel. After greasing and oiling it, I asked myself: when Shimano went downwards into making durability and reliability secondary, using plastic cheapy parts, low-quality/frag...

Re: Do you mind Daiwa going full Made In Thailand?

Culture has nothing to do with quality. If you but your factories under a strict quality control, anywhere in the world, you will have JDM-like products. The real problem is pinstriped businessman behind fishing companies, always putting cost-reductions above quality, for an ever growing profit.

Re: Lews KVD reel?

The KVD baitcaster has aluminum gears. Not a fan of that. The KVD baitcaster has aluminum gears. Not a fan of that. I'll take Doyos aluminum gears over Shimanos brass or aluminum any day. Duralumin gearing isn't that problematic. The actual wariness over them is all to be blamed on shimano, because...

Re: What is wrong with Quantum

The buzzing when casting is result of the polymer coating, used in PT series reels.

I really don't about it, since it's common on several coated bearings and ceramic ones.

Re: What is wrong with Quantum

I don't know why, but the gears on quantum reels wear out faster than Abu, Shimano, and Daiwa. The other annoyances can usually be taken care of with some cleaning, but most anglers aren't gonna be willing to do that as often as the reels require vs other brands. Most of their designs look solid in...

Re: Round Handle Knob handles On Baitcast Reels - Question

I don't own any baitcast reels with round knob handles. How do they compare to feel and grip of flatter handles that are mostly on baitcast reels? Also, which is better, EVA or Winn round handles? Does one or the other have a better feel and grip? And is one more durable than the other? I'm looking...

Re: What is wrong with Quantum

Quantum was a so-so quality brand before the change in philosophy over the PT series. The PT reels are very underrated, but delivers very good quality for a reasonable price. I just love my Energy and Icon, superb casters and very reliable. My poor energy shows the war marks for being used on extrem...

Re: What is wrong with Quantum

Quantum is only worth of money over their PT series, quite good reels. Both my Energy HPT and Icon are dealing with peacock basses, snooks and baby tarpons without any complaints. My poor energy is the reel I carry when descending my local river rocky banks and canyons, looking for peacock basses hi...

Just not build to last.

OMG... Is Quantum stealing Shimano philosophy over reliability and endurance? I hate copycats!
