Re: Relaxing/Rounding Out Cork Handles?

Thanks for the replies. Taking a road trip in 100” heat has already helped the handles, they’re noticeably less squashed. Maybe it’s just the passing time, not the warmth, but I’ll try some heat one I’m back home, as well.

Relaxing/Rounding Out Cork Handles?

Does anybody have any tricks to round out a squashed cork handle? In my infinite wisdom I slammed my trunk door on the butt section of a rod (not to worry, that rod was only a NRX ). Now the cork is squashed and not round anymore. It just cosmetic damage, but I’m not liking this one bit. I’ve m...

Re: What is your "all around" spinning stick?

I have 4 spinning rods in this category. Let's disregard the Powell Inferno 702 (although it's a great rod for the price), and I'm left with: * Megabass Orochi Shakyhead 7'1" * Expride 6'10" ML * NRX 6'10" DSR If I was forced to keep only one, it would be the Orochi. It's super versatile, plenty sen...

any recommendations on what I should clean the cork with before the u40, all of these rods have a couple years of use on them.
Mr. Clean Magic Eraser (the foam pads).

Xray Taper

The Kistler Zbone page for the "3 LMH Lite-Medium-Heavy" lists the blank as "Moderate-Fast", which sounds rather slow/parabolic and crank-baity to me (surprising because I had this rod pegged as a lighter bottom-contact rod). How slow is that taper in practice? I don't mind the Loomis MBR taper, but...

Re: Dark Sleeper as dropshot rig weight

The idea is sound, I frequently do this for halibut dropshots (2oz grub or buck tail jig as the weight). But that’s on heavy gear in sand. I’d be worried about losing a bunch of Dark Sleepers when used on a typical bass rig.

Re: Good split ring pliers

Got myself a pair of Texas Tackle pliers after Cal's recommendation. Best ones I've owned. (But changing split rings is still something I expect to be doing as punishment in the 5th circle of hell  )

Re: Abu Garcia Zenon

The Storm Arashi Swim got me very interested. The Zenon reel as well (potentially), I mostly run ABU spinning reels. Need to see more specs, though, to see if it's a worthwhile upgrade over the MGX.

Re: Sealing the cork

Well, I threw my concerns out the door after reading all new replies in this thread and sealed the cork on all of my rods (after testing it out on one of the cheaper ones first). Seems okay - the cork feel hasn't really changed much. The cork looks a bit darker/more saturated, but not bad.

Re: Which of these spinning reel to pair with a 7' M Shimano Expride?

I only have a 6’10” ML to test with, but... that rod balances perfectly on the screw lock cork with a spooled Stradic Ci4 2500. It still balances on the same cork spot with a cheap 7.5oz reel (the Stradic FL 2500 is 7.9) - I feel like both FL and Ci4 will work. (The 6’10” ML is a bit tip-heavy with ...

Re: Which shimano low profile for deep cranking

If you get a Bantam I’d strongly consider upgrading the handle to a longer one. The Bantam comes with an 84mm only by default. The Tranx 200 has a 102mm handle, the Curado K 200 at least a 90.

Re: A longer MH rod

Another highend option is the Phenix K2 Torzite Casting Rod 7'6" Heavy. Don't let the power rating throw you off, that rod line fishes light and the Heavy would be like a 4-power in other brands (also see comments on TW). I haven't fished the 7'6" H itself, but I got a 7'1" ML recently and freaking...

Re: I don't use spinning gear at all. Do you?

I have tons of bass spinning gear because I have kids, and my wife doesn't fish regularly. Anybody who has kids might be in the same boat (learning a baitcaster takes a while!) I just got my first ML finesse casting combo and added a BFS reel to it and definitely love it. Been dropshotting on it and...
