Re: Any recommendations lures for crappies from bank?

Don't underestimate the ability of large crappie to inhale normal "bass" size baits ... I've caught them on full size Mann's Minus 1 crankbaits and 5" flukes. Their mouths are quite capable of opening very wide and they can be aggressive when the feedbag is on. I've gotten most of my better ones af...

Re: Any recommendations lures for crappies from bank?

Biggest crappies have come on either smaller 1/8 rattle traps or micro jigs with 1” trout craw plastics Micro jig? sound great, I think I have some 1/16jig. The other days tried snap bean and bisty minnow for nada switch to Charlie brewer slider grub and started getting some. How often crappies hit...

Re: Any recommendations lures for crappies from bank?

The mini jig is still the best in my opinion because of the way it darts. It has influenced most of the other micro plastics. The supposed inventor of the mini jig is a famous legendary outdoor writer named "Crappie John" Beale. I came across John on Lake Henshaw around 1983. He could be seen on mo...

Any recommendations lures for crappies from bank?

I’m really into crappie right now. I got a whole bunch of plastic with various jig head size. In fact this whole year, I only bought stuffs for crappies no bass. I have a decent record on crappies but never once catch them on Lures. I have tried some Rapala HJ06, countdown, bisty minnow, snap bean.

Re: 7-8 foot bfs rod?

What are you trying to catch with your BFS in SoCal? I use Tsurinoya Dexterity 7’2 with 1 gram jig head plus 1 gram crappies plastic (total 2 gram).

Re: Ester mono.

Thanks, I was thinking of switching from Gliss line to something else since gliss line is frayed so easily just from my rough finger alone. I might have to give 8lb braid or Nanobraid a try.

Re: Ester mono.

How is ester line strength compare to those mono? Let’s say 2.4lb ester line vs 2-3lb mono?

Not big but not bad caught on lindy dancing spin 1/16oz with baby shad. Gears Majorcraft Benkei 6’7 L, reel scorpion 70 with ray’s shallow spool and #4 izorline.

Re: BFS and Trout baitcast combos

I’m interested in proflex ii as well. Is this good for crappie fishing? I don’t like the rod that is kind of noodleing. I have Daiwa spinmatic UL 7’ this rod can handle 2.9g lure pretty well but feel kind of too soft. I caught a 4lb bass with it though. If “dirtyd64” doesn’t want it LMK.

Re: Let's see that backlash!

I call this professional overrun lol. Same as other story, the lure sturucked in brushes behind. I hate working with 4lb line on these tiny reels.

Re: BFS and Trout baitcast combos

Of the Major Craft rods, is the L or UL more suited for jigheads (1/16-1/8) with plastic? I am sure each works better for different weights mentioned, just wondering if the L could handle both duties or if the UL is too soft. So far, the Proflex 2 I bought is nice, and works great for both, just wa...

Re: BFS and Trout baitcast combos

I just got myself a Benkei 672L (Fast action) myself to either pair with pixy with Ray’s spool or scorpion 70 with ray’s Spool. Today I went out to test it with crappies jig 1/16 oz with baby shad. It load up fine but casting distance is not so desirable. I also have Go Emotion 652L (MF) and this ro...

Re: Enough with the tackle. LETS SEE SOME FISH!

This catch was happened a few week backs. A nice 12” crappie on Roadrunner with baby shad. I just started learning how to fish for crappies and this was the first time I found a school of nice size.

Re: What's next for Shimano???

I stop buying curado 70 after the fourth one becuz I’m waiting for upgrade 70 with MGL spool or micro module gear. I might sell off my alde MG7 and scorpion xt1000 for those.
