Re: Anyone make short glass UL casting rods?

I was surprised by teh quality of this AliExpress purchase. The rod tip was nimble and loadable down to the mid and upper butt section even on 2g to 3g lures. https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005002409997207.html?spm=a2g0s.9042311.0.0.789c4c4dNhQcRh https://i.imgur.com/faHUnkk.jpg https://i.imgur.c...

Re: Best all around action for BFS

FWIW, I’ve been very happy with the Major Craft Days DYC-652UL/BF BFS rod. 1-10 g lure rating but I’d say 2-8 is more realistic. Definitely a bass rod, as opposed to most of my other rods that tend towards being trout rods. That one is on my list of rods to consider. Been looking hard at Major Craf...

Re: Short BFS rod

Interesting that there’s no hook keeper on your Trout Master since in the video he has one. Looking forward to your first fishing report.

Re: Jigs for really TINY fish?

THANKS all for your replies! (Just checking in.) Fascinating - such as the Tenkarabum link. I had NO idea that fishing for tiny teeny little fish was a thing. LOL! Down the rabbit hole... Re: Jigs for really TINY fish?

Use a fly rod. No matter how small the fly/hook it remains castable because you’re casting the weight of the line not the fly. A 2 wt. rod would be a good place to start.

Re: Jigs for really TINY fish?

Check out Chris Stewart’s micro fishing pages at his tenkarabum site. Scroll down the left side of the page to get to the other micro fishing links. Note, they don’t seem to use jigs with this Japanese technique so it may not be what you’re looking for. https://www.tenkarabum.com/micro-fishing.html

Re: $$$ UL braid? Thoughts ....

I find no correlation between high priced line and less tip wraps. Happens all the time to me with braid, mono, whatever. Honestly I've played around with some very light JDM braid and mono and just don't find them to be worth the cost. On TackleTour I know that's heresy but I'm reminded of what an ...

Re: Anyone make short glass UL casting rods?

It looks like Major Craft is adding some glass to their lineup. I wonder when they will be available? I really love my 4'5" L Finetail. https://www.majorcraft.co.jp/roditem/13957 I just bought one of the "new" Finetail 452L from JDM Tackle Heaven yesterday mostly on a whim. I think I would've proba...

Re: Favorite BFS rig...let's name it

Also how do you like the MC Days rod? I imagine it is night and day make powerful than a trout or panfish stick. If its anything like my Volkey 68L then its somewhat narrow in range for what it can throw but 90% of what I throw falls within that range so it's fine. I love the Days rod. Way differen...

Re: Favorite BFS rig...let's name it

I just ordered some swing-head jigs from Flatland Custom Tackle. They use a #01 hook and in my mind they should work like a Chef only less fiddly. I guess we'll see. https://www.flatlandscustomtackle.com/store/p191/1%2F0_Pro_Finesse_W%2FL_Ned_Heads.html Never saw those before but I'd say they shoul...

Re: Favorite BFS rig...let's name it

First time I hooked a bass on a Cheb rig, it jumped, shook its head and the cheb weight shot up the line, leaving me attached via an unsupported wire loop. Luckily it was a dink so no harm done. How do you prevent this happening? Thanks! Don't know. Never had that happen despite using the rig exten...

Favorite BFS rig...let's name it

I've had great success fishing Z-Man TRDs for both small and largemouth on BFS gear. Best hookup rates for me come when using it as a traditional Ned rig with a 1/15 oz mushroom jig, exposed hook. However, that's anything but weedless. When I need to go weedless, I put the TRD on a sz. 1 EWG with a ...

Re: BFS Trout Magnet Goal Achieved (almost)

I love chasing panfish with small jigs on BFS gear. There is something so polarizing about the fact of using baitcasting gear to catch them Despite having never fished baitcasters until getting in BFS, I far prefer handling a baitcaster to a spinning reel. Now if only I could fish ester line on BFS...

I'm going to use the same bait but with 1/16 trout magnets after work
That will be almost 3 g and should be no problem. Good fishing.
