Re: 2020 JDM Metanium Owners: Spool tension question
The spool shaft bearing has a spring underneath it which keeps constant tension (Shimano’s silent tune technology). If you loosen the spool tension enough, you should be able to still move the spool side to side, although there’s the slight resistance from the spring. Some other shimano reels like t...

NRX 852c tip guide size
I recently discovered the tip top guide of my NRX 852c has a chipped insert and I wanted to replace the guide. Does anyone know the exact size of the guide to replace it? I have read that it’s a Fuji TFST guide (titanium frame with sic insert) in size 5 with 3.5 tube size, but that seems a bit small...

Re: Carbon Handle for shimano metanium 2020
I was also looking for a carbon fiber handle in 90mm that didn't have any outlandish logos.. so I ordered this from ebay: https://www.ebay.com/itm/CARBON-HANDLE-85-90-100-mm-DAIWA-SHIMANO-ABU-GARCIA-DIFFERENT-COLORS/254303849416?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&var=554293838294&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l...

Re: Shimano Aldebaran 51 HG handle backplay
We do not recommend use of oils like Corrosion X. Permalub grease is what we use and recommend, and only a light amount is needed for corrosion protection. Excess oil/grease can cause the bearing to slip. Bantam1, when applying the Permalub grease, do you lightly apply it with a q-tip directly to t...

Re: Built for Finesse. Shimano's Curado MGL 70 K Baitcasters
Just curious, does anyone know where the weight gain is from the older curado 70? Is it from the longer handle plus bigger knobs or perhaps a heavier gearset?

Re: Aldebaran MGL Spool
Thanks for the quick responses. I definitely agree that the 2015 aldebaran is a bit over-braked since I am running only 1 internal brake block on with the dial between 1-3 depending on the lure weight/aerodynamics. I'm looking to get the perfect finesse combo of the aldy paired with my expride 7'2" ...

Re: Aldebaran MGL Spool
Sorry to bring back an old thread, but I recently fished my friend’s aldebaran mgl to compare to my regular 2015 aldebaran and noticed how much smoother it felt during a cast. Although my 2015 aldebaran is a fairly smooth caster, is there something besides the mgl spool and svs infinity 2 braking sy...

Re: Shimano Aldebaran 51 HG handle backplay
Awesome, thank you for those responses! I have tightened my handle nut pretty tightly and haven’t noticed any difference in the backplay. I will try ordering a new clutch sleeve and also try out corrosion x instead of tsi321.

Shimano Aldebaran 51 HG handle backplay
I've got a Shimano Aldebaran 51HG (non-MGL model) that has more backplay on the handle than my other reels including the Curado 71HG, 2016 Metanium MGL, Scorpion BFS 71XG. Initially, I tried to put the original roller bearing in an ultrasonic cleaner with a solution of simple green and water, dried ...

Re: New Curado 70 mgl K
I’m a little disappointed that it gained .4 oz over the 70, but am excited about the new mgl spool. I have done the micro module gear swap on my 71hg from the engetsu and it is quite smooth and even has the clicker functionality. I am curious if the new mgl spool uses the 2nd gen svs infinity system...

Shimano Zodias 2020 U.S. models
I was wondering if anyone had any information on the new 2020 Zodias models and if they will be released for the U.S.? It seems that the models released overseas only include 3 casting models in lengths 5’10”, 6’6”, and 7’5” but was hoping for something comparable to the 6’10” medium or medium light...

Re: Purple Reign : Phenix's Reinvigorated M1 is a Winner
Sorry to bring an old thread back, but I was wondering if anyone could compare the m1 vortex series to the feather series in terms of sensitivity, balance, and overall weight? I’ve got the feather casting models in 7’1” light, 7’1”medium-heavy, and 7’7” heavy and was considering getting the 6’9” med...
