Re: Who is the MOST over rated ?

So now I am left wondering if what happened to G.Loomis has now happened to North Fork and Edge Rods... Shame really. what do you mean by this? from what I have seen with interviews from Gary, the main reason he sold G. Loomis to Shimano back in 1997 was that he was diagnosed with prostate cancer a...

Re: Shimano vs daiwa spinning reel for new rod!

the only thing i would watch with daiwa is i believe some of their newer spinning reels no longer have a bearing in the line roller. its a bushing now. The stradic of course, has a ball bearing here. the last TT review of a daiwa spinning reel noted issues with line twist, and daiwa used to be amazi...

Re: Who is the MOST over rated ?

for the first generation E6X rods (released in 2015) I would agree that some models are overrated (some are heavy etc). However, the 2018 updated E6X rods feel much better (lighter). Looks like Loomis/Shimano listened, which is great. I too do not like some of the reel seats on the St. Croix higher ...

Re: Gloomis Classic Trout

I throw a lot of 3/16-1/4 ounce baits jerkbaits for trout, will the 791 be able to handle that? I've been using a 842 SJR or Adderemine. no I dont think so, its a true UL rod with a max lure weight of 3/16. for 1/4 jerkbaits you may have to go with the SJR series not the SR or TSR series. if you wa...

Re: Gloomis Classic Trout

i used to own the 2 piece IMX SR841-2, a 7 foot two piece UL rod, it was awesome, but i since sold it because I much prefer one piece rods. I replaced it with a 1 piece TSR loomis rod, the TSR 791 and its awesome. my only regret is not getting the 7'6 version of the same rod. have you tried any of t...

Re: G Loomis Build Quality

it seems to be hit or miss. i have many Loomis rods (GL3, TSR, E6X, Escape travel etc) but no high end ones. the build quality all mine is fantastic, even on the E6X's which are the BOTTOM end ones lol. to hear this happening on their flagship models is unacceptable. Go to the shimano support board ...

Calcutta B series

Hi Bantam. are the Calcutta B series reels still in production? I was thinking about picking up a 200gtb (for steelhead fishing). I have always wanted a shiny gold Calcutta reel and the conquests are out of my price range lol. Do you know if they will be updated soon? or are they going to be left as...

Calcutta 200b/gtb

Hi all, does anyone still use classic style round reels like the Calcutta B? I have always wanted to own a shiny gold Calcutta (the conquest is out of my price range lol) and was thinking about picking up a 200b or gtb (actually for steelhead fishing). Are these reels still being made? don't here mu...

Re: What's next for Shimano???

in all seriousness, I wish they would start putting hook keepers on their high end JDM style rods. (eg zodias, expride etc)

its like buying a car without cruise control- I just cant do it.

Re: High end trout specific rods

not sure how if its high end enough, but the G. Loomis Trout series rods are awesome and they make a 7'6 UL one peice rod.

I have the TSR791 (6'7 UL one peice) and its awesome.

but I do wish I got the 7'6 one peice version instead.
