Re: Favorite fly rod and why??

Orvis Small Stream Special. 7' 5 wt. It was my first nice flyrod. Slow, I can feel it bend into the grip....I just think of where I want the fly and that's where it goes. Not good for big trout, but it really lives up to its name and is great for the trout I normally go after...if I'm fishing where ...

Re: Loomis SR6010-2 GL3

UPS was lying. They kept the rod in Atlanta for an extra day just for fun.

Anyway, rod just arrived, and it's got some kind of single-foot guides...other than that, I don't know what they are.

Re: Loomis SR6010-2 GL3

Mine still isn't here...will be here tomorrow if UPS isn't lying. But I don't know that I will know when I see them. The longer GL arrived yesterday with the recoil guides....I've never seen anything like those before.

Re: Loomis Rod Question

Thanks again for the input all.... I've ordered a TSR791S GLX and a SR6010-2 GL3. That gives me a longer general-purpose UL rod, as well as a shorter 2-piece for mountain trout. I've also got a Stradic CI4+ 1000 on the way that will go between the two rods....I'm sure the GLX will get the most use. ...

Re: Loomis Rod Question

What you fishing for? Most of the guys up here buy them for crappie / panfish, so 791 vs glx 791 honestly just get the 791. For trout or smth where you are actually using finesse baits you can see the advantage over the regular 791. Action wise i find the glx a tad softer tip, fast action. My favor...

Re: Loomis Rod Question

GLX blank is different and you get recoil guides. Thanks for the reply cndbasshunter - I don't doubt you at all - for the price difference, the blank should be different. I see on the Loomis site about the recoil guides, but where do you find out about the blanks? Again, not questioning your answer...

Loomis Rod Question

FIrst - thanks all to my 500-size reel question...I'll be going with a 1000-size reel. Now, on to my rod question... I'd like to read up on this on the Loomis website, but either the info isn't there, or I don't know how to find it. Is there any difference between the TSR GLX rods and the TSR non-GL...

Re: USDM 500-size reels

A 1000 size reel is a good size for a 6' rod. I'm not impressed with the 500 sized reels (other than the Shimano Soare 500S and you can grab one for about $270 USD shipped from Japan. Personally with a $500 dollar budget for the rod and reel I'd look to JDM reels. The budget is less than $500 - tha...

USDM 500-size reels

Hi All, I'm a 25+ year fly fisherman who hasn't done any U/L fishing in all that time. I've been wanting to pick up an all-around spinning outfit for targeting trout and bluegill primarily. I'm looking at fishing 2 to 4 lb. line, and am thinking of a Loomis 6' GL3 rod, and a reel to pair it with. Th...
