Re: Abu Garcia Burner 10.1:1 Gear Ratio Thoughts

^ Hmmm, something fun. Maybe it’s my bad English because I just don’t get it. But not needed to be explained :D Efficiency of gears is not big thing because it can be easily compensated by more power. But in addition to that the efficiency of baitcasting reel gears is more or less same as sensitivi...

It's been a while since I've ordered anything but I did order them often, very good people there.

And in addition to that, efficiency equivalent in high ratio gears is not as good as in standard gears.

Re: Abu Garcia Burner 10.1:1 Gear Ratio Thoughts

I used a buddy's reel just the other day for about 10 minutes. You're right- the handle flexes. If you're gonna keep it for punching, replace it with a long aluminum handle. As far as the reel goes, it's nice, but lacks torque. I dont think it would do well dragging out a 5# fish plus all the salad...

Re: Line recommendations

fished mostly mono and then FC in relatively clear KY lakes for years. Had 50# braid on one rig and no confidence. Fishing 30# braid in Florida now for about 10 years I have transferred it to my KY lakes with no impact. My theory- I can't see the crap (downside of light braid) and I don't think fis...

Re: Line recommendations

Thanks guys for your input. After 40+ years of heavy veg, tannic water and pickerel teeth to contend with, I feel like I'm fishing in a swimming pool. It's not all dialing down though. Had to move up to 22lb Armillo for topwaters and from 7lb Shooter for finesse. It's been a learning experience, may...

Re: High Speed Reels (9:1 Type)

I bought the less refined 1516 because 9.1:1 retrieves more line than the 1016. IMHO, unless you get a bad gear or you don't do proper maintenance, the gears will last a good long time.

Re: Line recommendations

Okay, so a 22# lb braid = 1.5 or 2 is good with a flour/mono rating of 14 lb
Thanks

Re: Sunline Shooter Finesse Question

I've been using Shooter 7# for a couple of years. I don't know if it's the finesse subtype. Haven't had major problems that I can recall.

How far above recommended line specs do you feel comfortable going?
I have a rod rated to 14lb, I was thinking about going to 22lb braid w/17lb leader. It's just for a test period, not for long term.
Thanks,

FYI, I went to the Cross Outdoor Gear website just to see what was what. No sooner leaving that then going to Facebook, I got a Cross ad on my timeline.

Re: Buying Multiple Bait Colors as Backups...???

At least 2. There are some baits that take a beating because they are productive, so lips and hardware loosen.

2 or more with a productive bait.

Re: Meiho Tackle Storage

Thanks JohnnyA, I found availability on Amazon and have a box inbound. I hope you like it. One of the neatest attributes is the dividers things being about 1/16, maybe less, apart than the 2" or so. You can really customize your trays. The 3080 top and bottom are designed so if you lift it wit...
