Mepps Aglia Spinner 00 has 1,5g and is castable. Lightest for me is the europe cream jig but that is really the limit for me.

Re: Are there any benefits to having a heavy spool?

Greater rotational mass can clearly cast further. There is no circumventing Physical law. Perhaps it would be best if I added 'all else equal'. I get the cycling example. Makes sense. But your energy does not change. Drag, resistance, and mass do change, hence more speed. Don't mean to create fuss,...

Re: Are there any benefits to having a heavy spool?

Yes the heavy spool may spin longer, but the bait will hit the water long before a light spool would stop spinning. That's why there are brakes.
Other than durability I would say no

Re: Question about BFS rods and the specifically shorter rods.

I'm only fishing with short rods. It just feels better, greater handling. My UL Baitcaster rod is the Royal Spirit 562UL 1-6g from AE. It's a real trout stick, I'm having lots of fun with it and with that excellent build quality it's basically a steal for that price. I can post some pictures if you'...

Re: Line Slipping when jigging/hookset

Ah sorry by brake I mean drag, we call it brake here.
Your drag has probably become smoother with the new grease but also a little weaker, so it slips when you do sudden jerks (bigger force than just reeling in)
Try tightening the drag?

Re: Line Slipping when jigging/hookset

Loose Brake?
Mechanically it can't be the spool bearings, because the spool is engaged by the spool pin.
It can only be something with the brake.
If you prefer a lighter brake, thumb on spool when setting the hook.

Re: Anyone tried DIY spools? $29-$40 BFS spools!

I know what you mean it's hard to describe, I probably did the same when I only had the heavy stock spool. The Bait alone would not accelerate the spool, but with that technique, that long casting motion it's possible to slowly put more and more energy into the system. For me it worked better with r...

Re: Anyone tried DIY spools? $29-$40 BFS spools!

I totally mixed everything up, p = m*v F= m*a Ekin= 1/2 m*v² my problem was that once the bait has been accelerated, it has a constant speed -> this energy now transfers partly to the spool and rotates it. I wanted to solve it with impulse/momentum conservation. How would you solve it? Edit: change ...

Re: Anyone tried DIY spools? $29-$40 BFS spools!

Yes you are right there is a mistake, I think it should be like this then:
Impulse/Momentum conservation: p = F, and p = m*v so Fbait = m * v
my brain has turned into mush...

I'll try your bifilar suspension method and pm you the results. I don't know if this becomes kinda offtopic.

Re: Anyone tried DIY spools? $29-$40 BFS spools!

I did some small calculations because I wanted to know how big the effect of the shaft is. Basically it shouldn't matter alot, but it still does. Probably the last step to perfection. This should be a simple model to demonstrate the physics of a baitcaster reel. https://s29.postimg.org/dqg2qgvcn/ine...

Re: Anyone tried DIY spools? $29-$40 BFS spools!

Here the pictures: The Weight of the shaft is in the center, so it shouldn't effect the Moment of Inertia alot theoretically. I could measure the Inertia of the spools, but I don't know if anyone is interested I am inert with the results of measuring the moment of inertia !!! I myself measured a lo...

Re: Grease and oil preferences

Penn Grease Bearings dry or tiny bit wd40 Bearings never dry, unless they are full ceramic, and NEVER, ever WD40. I know the trouble about wd40, but it's one of the thinnest oils and therefore great for UL. Dry bearings are even better imo. Removed the shields of the SARB, flushed them with carb cl...
