Re: The Highest Example – The Edge Epitome Rods from Gary Loomis
This site and forum are mostly about freshwater bass fishing. The NFC CEO says the next rod blanks to use the X-Ray Carbon Air are for surf rods. I'm looking forward to that and curious what they have in the works.

The travel blanks are also interesting. What's a reverse ferrule?

Re: To Spiral Or Not to Spiral... what is your preference?
It depends how I fish the rod. In general if the rod is fished tip up I spiral wrap, if fished tip down I don't.
All my conventional offshore rods are built spiral wrapped.

Re: Where to purchase JDM blanks?
Builds went well! They are pretty soft but do real well with moving baits but I would look for something stiffer for tossing jigs like I normally do. Are the T-Russell Super Mebaru or Big Pond blanks soft? I want to build a UL rod. I can't make up my mind between a mebaru (Super Mebaru) or ajing (S...

Re: Kitchen Cutlery
My diet is mostly vegetables, so I first got a nakiri. It looks like a little cleaver and it's made from Aogami (blue) #2 carbon steel. I got the cleaver because it's easier to learn stone sharpening on a blade with no belly. I also have a petty and paring knife in VG10 stainless steel. Each knife w...

It can take awhile for them to re-stock certain items. Shipping to California can be slow. Eventually I always get what I ordered.

Re: Guide Reccomendation
I read too quick and missed you're building a simple spiral rod. My list is for a casting rod, all guides on top. You can use the KW5.5 as the bumper that transitions to a KB5.5, or add a second KW5.5 as the bumper that transitions to the KW5.5, or use a 5.5 KB as a bumper. As far as simple spiral, ...

Re: Guide Reccomendation
I don't know the type and size of line you use. You can change the guide types and sizes as you see fit. If you're using Fazlite: KW 10 and 5.5 KB 5.5, 2 or 3 guides KT 5.5, running guides as many as you need I have the rings of the tip-top and running guides the same size. I use guide tubing from M...

Re: Discontinued sale of St Croix blanks
I got an email from RodGeeks about the St Croix SC5 blanks. The SC5 blanks are still made in the USA. At least RodGeeks gives you the option to have them painted.
The email had this link.

Discontinued sale of St Croix blanks
I read that St Croix will discontinue the sale of SC2, SC3, and SC4 blanks to rod builders. Apparently the USA made SC5 blanks will be available only through Rodgeeks. They will continue to sell finish rods.
There's supposed to be an announcement.

Re: NFC pricing
NFC says that the X-Ray are supposed to be so much better than the HM’s. Then how is it that the HM’s are more expensive than the X-Ray? Just kinda doesn’t add up. Yes I have ordered with the sale so I will have in hand comparisons. Good question. The only think I can think of are the XRay blanks a...

I ordered a pair of MB-736 blanks on Aug 14th. Hopefully I get them before Thanksgiving.
