I questioned whether or not the aluminum gear on the JDM would work for my application but so far after about 60 steelhead the reel is still buttery smooth.
Probably my favorite reel over the last 10 years.

Re: Floating braid?
I ordered Hydrofloat braid before investigating but have now found mostly negatives reviews on it so will be sending it back without trying. Also ordered Sunline Float II mono so will try it but it is a mono.......

Zillion SV spool swap
Absolutely love this reel for steelhead but it does not get the distance I want using 1/4 oz spoons for trout.
Factory spool loaded with 8# Fireline Ultra 8 good for about 30 yd cast. Spool has play dial on 6-blows up on 4.
Any advice on putting in a shallow spool for better distance?

After near 50 years of trout fishing I have narrowed my preference to-
Thomas Buoyant Gold/Red
Black Panther Martin with yellow dots
Green or black jig under bobber
Variety of Wolly buggers

Re: 8'-9' Casting rod?
Yes, that is the route I will be going. Had a builder in WA make me an sweet spinning rod with an NFC 901 blank and am in line for him to build the same in casting........... I would suggest a spiral wrap for that casting rod. Otherwise, line will drop below and/or rub the blank. Love it for my 8-9...

Re: 8'-9' Casting rod?
Edge rods has some longer steelhead rods that may fit the bill. I have the first strike FSS865STR (8'6" MH) spinning rod which is rated from 3/8-1oz but in reality its probably more like 1/8-5/8. They have the same blank in a casting build for the first strike and the higher end black widow in a 90...

Re: 8'-9' Casting rod?
I would recommended 2 rods : Yamaga Blanks Blue Current III 82B : https://yamaga-blanks.com/product/lightgame/bluecurrent3/ Tenryu Rayz RZ842B : https://fishing.tenryu-magna.com/trout/rayz.html Light, sensitive and responsive. No dice Both of these are JDM rods, if you are based in the US I think t...

Re: 8'-9' Casting rod?
Off the top of my head the Okuma Celilo kokanee rods. There's an 8 foot UL and L powered casting rod. https://okumafishingusa.com/products/celilo-specialty-rods You can also look into casting kokanee trolling rods from other manufacturers. There are also ajing casting rods that are long but typical...

8'-9' Casting rod?
Looking for at least an 8' casting rod for trout fishing in lakes. Mostly throwing 1/8oz spoons or jig and bobber. 2#-6# preferred.
