Re: Garmin or Lowrance

Well the Hummingbird G3 still does it. Sometimes double the depth in less than say 4 ft water. In real shallow like 2 ft, it gets real confused but i think that may be any brand. The depth finder is probably not that useful in such shallow depths anyway. The Lowrance was worse then the Hb with the i...

Re: Garmin or Lowrance

I had the Helix 5 DI G1, then tried a Garmin Striker 5CV (downscan), then tried a Hook2 5 tripleshot (with sidescan). Now I've gone sort of full circle, Helix 7 MSI G3. I really got used to the Helix 5. Very customisable in terms of scan/scroll speed, panel size, sensitivity. I used it in a thru-hul...

Re: Alphas air stream custom

I feel BFS reels are better in hand/more balanced with a UL rod when the reel is light, so I'd say go the Alphas, although perhaps consider the Alphas Air or CT instead of the Silver Creek.

Re: Shimano 19 Antares

I thought the MGL/magnumlite spool is some sort of aluminium alloy/fine for salt.

I think Bantam1 mentioned it was the chrome plating that was problematic in salt.

Re: '19 Vanquish 2500SHG

I know what you mean. I feel like it's worth paying extra for larger spin reels like Saltigas and Stella SWs where they need to perform under heavier loads, and the smaller reels can be any reel (using Stradics at the moment). But whilst I might use a big reel once a year, I use the Stradics almost ...
