Re: 1016 BFS Reel

Steez (new and old), TDZ, T3, Zillion SV TW all accommodate 34mm spools. All can be considered bfs candidates. The trick is finding the one with the best braking magnet polarity for your specific spool. To play it safe, my suggestion would be a Steez or Zillion SV TW, T3, or POSSIBLY a TDZ.... Unle...

Re: 1016 BFS Reel

So I assume with those bearing counts, these reels have 4 on the spool/pinion, then 1 on mainshaft, 1 anti-reverse, and 1 in each knob for the 1016. Some sites list the Ballistic as having 5+1, but either way I think these Daiwa reels only had single main gear support (w/ an anti reverse bearing too...

Re: 1016 BFS Reel

You are probably thinking of the T3 Balistic. The regular T3 1016 never sold for under $100 Yes it was a Ballistic, the full Zaion body one, I should have been more clear, the red and black trim ballistic was the cheaper version, I was definitely not talking about the silver/grey T3. That being sai...

Re: Don't shoot the messenger...

This made me look into their Envy Black 2 rods, would have a hard time dropping over $300 on one of those. The guides are good, and the graphite seems quality (46 TON), but that reel seat... Looks like plastic chrome I see stuck all over trucks driving around here. At that price I would have a hard ...

Re: OG tatula vs New tatula rod

Does Daiwa make any mid priced rods that are more of a Medium power, fast action? I really like that style of rod for most of my fishing, but it seems like they normally step up to MH and a bit higher rated than lures I normally use...

Re: 1016 BFS Reel

A used TDZ is also an excellent choice if you don't like the T3. DaveJ Bid on one not long ago, sure it will go for more than I bid though. The T3 confuses me a bit, TW had them for under $100 a few years back, I wasn't quite set on Daiwa/Shimano back then though or else I'd grabbed one in XH for u...

1016 BFS Reel

I am trying to find a 1016 spool sized reel for a DIY spool, to go on a 2 piece Tsurinoya UL rod. I currently use one of my Zillion SV TW's and since the fishing is heating up I would rather have the Zillion on one of my 7' Medium, fast action bass rods. I am planning on getting some new rods and wi...

Really good looking reel, I have distanced from Abu a bit, but would love to have one of these.

Re: Steez A spool options

I use a Zillion SV TW spool in my Steez A, for some reason it impresses much more than in the Zillion SV TW itself. I put the stock Steez A spool in an SS/SV (strange but good fit for 1/2 under hard baits), but really enjoy the Zillion SV TW spool in the "A". I run the brakes very low, 2-6 and get n...

Re: '19 Steez ct sv tw

Good video, the gears almost look identical to what is in the Steez A, not 100% though, just the clicking drag, washers, ratio, etc. all match. I still wonder if you could use the normal 90mm Daiwa handles. I figure you can but the lock plate runs parallel with the handle rather than slightly offset.

Re: New reel dilemma

I simply do not trust myself enough to file down a gear without messing the whole thing up You are already going to replace both gears right? So you will have a new set ready to go... This means you can mess up the old gears if you want to! So give it a try! Can't hurt at this point. Simply find yo...

Re: Tsurinoya XF-50 Budget BFS Reel Teardown & Evaluation

I ordered a tip section, and a whole second rod tonight. kuying Teton TTS662L. Now we see how long it takes to get here. From what I can tell, the Tsurinoya Proflex 2 now comes in a "Light" version too. I was planning on ordering a Teton next, either UL or Light, but it is hard to not try another P...
