Re: Any disadvantages to O rings?

[quote="Pen3"]Just screw the CPS till it is no longer visible and just skin hook about 1/16 of the plastic right through the eye of the CPS. This one is nose hooked, but you can do it in the middle if you want, just match the worm thickness with the size of the CPS. I use it w Awesome! Thanks! I see...

Re: Any disadvantages to O rings?

When I fish O ring senkos in lakes with no trees or brush, I use a circle hook, and never tongue hook fish. Carolina rig with a DEPS weedless circle hook and Owner CPS pin is also great. I was initially skeptical about a weed-guard for circle hooks, but i have not lost a single fish due to it and i...

I agree! I always laugh when the other person in the boat says, "Want me to get the net?" When I've got a northern on. No - just lip him for me, would ya? lol

Re: what weight do you use for bass?

I'm pretty new to fly fishing - I did it a bit as a kid, but am just getting back into it. I just picked up a 5/6 weight rod. From what I'm seeing here that might be too light for bass fishing? I wanted to start somewhere, so I thought I would start with that. I guess I'll see how it works and adju...

Re: 2017: Favorite Technique to Catch Bass

I checked pitching and flipping. I like pitching to heavy cover and vegetation. I like throwing a jig and I think the "hand to hand combat" of pitching in thick stuff is a lot of fun. My problem is I tend to fish painfully slow when I so that because I'm always so convinced there's a fish where I pi...

Re: Favorite species to target on a fly?

I'm looking forward to doing some trout fishing this year, and bass as well. I'd love to try tarpon fishing sometime. It looks like it would be an awesome way to spend a day!

Re: Your top 3 soft plastics

I'd have to list a craw imitation as my first choice (such as a Reaction Innovations Sweet Beaver) Senko and a small tube would be second and third… but what if they're biting a swim bait that day? And what if the only way to catch them is to Carolina Rig a brush hog? Or if swimming a grub is the ke...

Re: Go to jigs for largemouth

I used to use a lot of Northstar and Strike King jigs. Now I use a local jig guy - Super K Jigs. He is local, but ships his jigs across the country, including to several of the pro anglers. He hand-ties all of his jigs and he will make any color you can think of. It is also nice to have a local expe...

Re: Is it Daiwa, Shimano, or someone else?

My favorite isn't even on the list. :D I switched to KastKing a few years ago on the advice of a friend. I have had a good experience with the reels I've bought from them so far, and the price is right. That being said, I will probably stick with them until they prove me wrong.

Re: Flippin'/ pitchin'; same thing, right?

I love to pitch to heavy cover. I am not a big flipper, though. Maybe it's because I'm so short? I don't know, it just seems like that's a technique that is better for a taller person (with longer arms). But pitching is one of my favorite techniques.

Re: rattle trap reel

I use a KastKing Royale for rattle traps and crankbaits. I am waiting for them to come out with another lower speed reel for that application. They had a White Max, I think it was, but it's been discontinued. I would rather have a 5.X:1 for lipless cranks, but the 6.3:1 works well, too. I just slow ...

Re: what's everyone's most productive lure?

If I could only fish one bait for an entire season, I would have to choose a jig. I think a jig is pretty versatile. You can flip or pitch it, swim it, or work it anywhere in the water column. If fish are short-striking, changing up the trailer color is usually the ticket. A jig also allows you to f...

Re: What's your thoughts on bed fishing?

there would be no way to enforce this in tournaments.....up here in canada, bass season is closed during the spawn, we aren't allowed to fish for them during this time... It's the same way in Wisconsin, sort of. We have a catch and release season, but no bass can be kept - immediate release only. I...

Re: Off season fitness

I've had some tournament-related injuries in the past few years related to not staying in shape in the off season. I've been rehabbing a tendon issue in my thumb/forearm related to pitching continuously in several back-to-back tournaments. So, for me, I work on forearm strength and such a lot. Cardi...
