I will throw in another tried-and-true bargain the 200e series Shimano variants. I was never able to get a production 5.5 geared specimen in left so I took my Scorpion xt 1501-7 and tossed in the 5.5 gears thanks to Gary and Triple T and added 95mm Avail Sti handle for added length/power and style. ...

The main difference is I believe you've roughly stated with actions tapers guide train being main differences between the 2 series. I haven't used the new XX as they are not for me but if they fish anything like the XXX of the JDM line you'll be happy plus you're getting a better guide train and len...

I just have to say again how beautiful all of these reels are congratulations to all who have been posting to this particular post as I said definitely makes me wish I didn't sell mine but then again I'm super stoked on my stable too so carry on carry on 8-)
