Re: It's time for a 5" fluke rod (casting rod)

I am a fluke fanatic and I have settled on a St. Croix Avid 63 medium/exfast as my rod for them. I’m using an Alphis Finesse custom with a DIY Spool loaded w/ 30 pound J-braid to a 16 pound Sunline F100 leader. I like a St Croix medium because I feel like it’s light enough to load well with a Zoom S...

Re: MB Hyuga 72H/Super Red Demon, what rod sits in between?

I don't have a scale. Maybe Houndfish can weigh his 72H Hyuga? I wouldn't have thought the Hyuga was especially light weight for a H+ since it was a $150 stick that was basically a 2015 JDM Levante but it certainly balances out more tip up than the 72H+ Wild Side without a reel on either rod. I can...

Megabass FMJ (if I can find it)
F6-71X FMJ
If perfect balance is your driving criteria then the FMJ isn’t going to cut it. I love mine to death but I have absolutely filled the entire butt cap cavity full of tungsten putty and it has improved the balance/feel of the rod tremendously.

Bump - Has anyone picked any Orions? I'm going to grab the ML Degel or ML+ Lightning Strike some time before summer hits.
This instagram account has been posting some stuff about the lightning strike.

JDM models are already available. I have the new 166XH-SB short swimbait stick and love it! Amazing quality for the $$
What's the casting range on that rod? I have been looking at the various 6'6" JDM swimbait rods for a while now but have never found much info in english about them.

Re: New Legend Tournament

Why on earth are they going with non-contact reel seats?

I have an Avid that is like a top-5 rod for me but when it breaks I am going to look elsewhere for a replacement.

Re: New 2021 Daiwa 月下美人 “Alphas” Air TW PE Special

If I want a reel to stick on a Dobyns 74 UL, load with 6lb braid, and use to bomb 1/8 oz spoons for white perch in tidal rivers, this is the reel for me, correct? It would be a very good choice. I use it and the regular Alphas Air TW for similar applications, and while brakes are different you will...

Re: Googan Squad makes the best rods

Social media influence will be the death of our society as a whole. More immediately, it is killing the fishing and tackle culture we here at TT are familiar with. It has become about promoting any and every rebranded Chinese piece of crap that comes along, rather than appreciating quality gear and...

Re: Megabass Phase 3 F2 60x Cliffhanger / Criffhanger

How does it compare to the 65UL Volkey Stiffer tip for sure, maybe more power in the butt as well. The 65UL Volkey feels lighter overall, I have taken them both wading and with same small-smallies and big redbreasts the Volkey gives a better fight. I have never use the Volkey in ponds with cover so...

Re: Megabass Phase 3 F2 60x Cliffhanger / Criffhanger

I got my hands on a P3 Criffhanger a year or three ago. It's a super super fun rod, feels like a fencing foil in hand. It's sweet spot is about 1/4oz and it's very much a fast taper with reasonably stiff tip. I use it as a jig/worm rod and love it. If I found a second one for a good price I would be...

Re: Back Glide soft plastics

I used to use the Ika but have mostly moved over to the Jackall Cover Craw. It seems like it has a bit more glide and less drop the the Ika and it's a lot cheaper most of the time. I have also started using the Keitech solid tube a little, it's a great plastic and very heavy.

Re: What was your rod's breaking point?

I use a lot of light tackle and a lot of t-rigged plastics and have never had an issue breaking a rod. I trained myself to always do a reel-down-and-sweep hookset and with thin wire hooks it's very reliable. I never use the rod/reel to pull out snags, I have either a little length of dowel or a purp...

Re: Entry level Ajing rod for 1/32-1/16oz hair jigs?

If the guides on the rods your are looking at are small and limiting casting distance with 4 lb mono, a larger reel will make it worse. Diameter of the spool should correlate with the size of the first guide on spinning rods. Agreed but the reason for going for larger reel was to help with managing...

Re: Megabass Destroyer Bait Finesse/Hien vs Criffhanger/Cliffhanger

Rod will be used mostly for bottom contact baits between 3-7 grams total. Occasionally, I might use a heavier jig head that'd bring the total weight to 10g, but that'd be the very max. 1.5-2g would be a nice to have, but not 100% necessary, as I have other rods that work well for that. When I do us...
