Re: Older GLX question

you are taking me far back to my first glx. I don't think they were SiC. I broke the tip on mine and had it replaced. The replacement had new guides and no Weibe grip. The balance of the rod improved and I assume that means the older guides were heavier then the SICs

Re: NRX??

I'd be Ok potentially with a new make-up job but don't change the blank. 2 weeks ago down in FL and had a +9 on my NRX894 and it made me remember how well the tip on this rod keeps the big ones under control. while sensitivity hooked me at first, it is nice tip that differentiates it from some of my...

Re: Metanium MGL Issue

something not right. with heavy fc (16#) I can have issues with both the 13 and 16 met and sometimes need to go to 3 or 4 brakes. I don't fish FC much and stick with 30# braid on both. Even with wind, I set my inside brake to 1 on plus external dial. The with a 1/4oz bait the 16 met certainly outcas...

Re: Dobyns DX746 or DX795 for Deep Water + Heavy Jigs

they are well balanced but will be 1.5 to 2oz heavier then the Kistler you have which on my scale is 4.4oz. check the rod weight sticky in this forum and you likely find the exact weights. to own, I got my first dobyns rod in November. I got a graphite 7'6 crankbait rod. balance is relatively poor w...

Re: Dobyns DX746 or DX795 for Deep Water + Heavy Jigs

You need to define nicer ;) I don't like the Dobyns as well as that HE3 7'3H you have. However, they might feel slightly better throwing such a heavy rig. I have Powell 795 and 775. Neither quite as sensitive as the HE3 but both would do very well with the big jig and trailer. I'd probably rig it on...

Re: Advice for a 1/2oz jig rod and some long-winded musings.

I think you would like the NRX as well. I own the longer and slightly stouter 894 cousin of this rod. Even with stouter 894 I've had good luck using it as a buzzbait rod and burning speedworms right under the surface over grass. Further, I pitch and cast total weight 1/4oz rigs on this set-up into g...

Re: Chatterbait rod

I have been using a MB X4 Destruction for a few years now and love it for 1/2 oz chatterbaits and 65lb braid. I know its no longer made so I dread the day something happens to it. This is what I've used too. Works great, but I'm a chatterbait rookie so don't know if a faster or slower action rod wo...

Re: Chatterbait rod

I generally only fish chatterbaits in the spring and I generally fish big ones that I think have TW of roughly 3/4oz. In the pond behind my home, I will normally use a 3 power rod. On a lake I have lost some of the biggest fish of the year around laydownds that I could not initially see. For this re...

Re: What are You PUNCHING with?

used a powell 3D 795 last year. works well but this year I'm using the faster action Powell 3D 775. Punching for me is normally a 1oz weight, hook and small plastic. My heaviest sinker is 1.5oz.

Re: Metanium vs Chronarch

Don't own the Chronarch MGL. yet :D Have 13, 16 mets and CI4. If for moving baits, I'd go chronarch. The metanium is what I like for bottom bouncing. I don't have an issue with the old CI4 for a lipless crank so the MGL version must be out of this world for apps like that.

Re: New Kistler Zbone!?

when they went missing about a month ago I assumed that the situation. The 7'3H is to me more sensitive then my NRX 894's but both have a place in my boat. Will be nice to see what the new one looks like. Full rear grip and no foregrip as the standard model would be nice but I guess I am dreaming.

would be interesting to test against my 7'3 Hexfast HE3. I would say the HE3 fishes like a Fast action but man does it have some power.

Met MGL XG - US model if you will be using heavy FC, Japan import works great with braid or lighter FC. I really like the braid though on the Met.
