Re: Tackle Your Enthusiasm with Shimano's Metanium MGL

Thanks for the Christmas Present Cal :!: This reel is nearing but just short of perfection. 4 gaps from perfection to me 1- removing the spool bearing to service the reel is complicated/delicate 2- Color is just OK to me and I'm not picky about reel color 3- That the Chronarch comes with a 90mm hand...

Re: Dobyns 765CB Glass handle length

I got the 765 graphite rod over the holiday sales. My cork length is 9.5 roughly. I think that equates to your 13 but check it. because of a warm and sunny November, I was able to fish the rod a little and I will say the length of the rear grip is not an issue for me. My concern was that the balance...

Re: Metanium mgl vs chronarch mgl thread

a renowned reel repair guy on another board is telling me to have low expectations of this change. He says just because it fits does not mean it will hold up. Would be nice if someone installs this and fishes it hard for 4 months before we all go in on this ide ;)

Re: Favorite paddletails?

Texas rigged paddletails with a very light slip sinker can be the deal in south Florida at times. Most of my success has come on the skinny dipper. This fall I bought some of the zoom paddletails and the action is very nice. I catch many bass on zoom uvibes so I know the smell of the zoom plastic is...

Re: Metanium mgl vs chronarch mgl thread

so is anyone actually using a Met MGL as a crankbait reel that can tell me if you like it and what speed you like. That we can upgrade them to brass is great!!!! Cranks for me are MOSTLY Lipless cranks and shallow divers like the Lure Jenson Speed trap. I don't throw DD22's often where I fish most b...

Re: Loomis GLX 852S vs. NRX 852S

I can't give much love to any spinning rod but that 893 is another story :big grin: action of the rod is very cool. A great 12# FC or 30# braid rod. I've even had good luck in winter slow rolling small swimbaits on 8# yozuri hybrid.

Re: black friday rod- catches fish already

Thanks, I hope the weather here holds and I can get a reel with braid on this rod over the weekend and test the sensitivity of the rod. Bought this thing mostly based on the TT Editors Choice award from 2015. I'm not blown away yet but not disappointed either and I'm a rod snob. So far I've thrown a...

Re: Want to buy one super high end rod - which one should it be?

Please post back with your thoughts. You have made a very good choice at any price and for what you paid I have a hard time seeing how you to possibly make a better choice though I don't fish every rod on the market. One of the things that has impressed me about this rod is when I put a finesse rive...

black friday rod- catches fish already

One thing I dislike about holiday sales is that ponds are frozen or near frozen and I don't land a fish on it until April. Well, my Dobyns 765 cb rod showed up today and 45 minutes later just testing out the rod with a crankbait what should appear. This is my first dobyns rod that I've owned. Seems ...

Re: G. Loomis 843C MBR or 844c MBR for jigs

I am commenting based on classic GLX models not the conquest which I've not fished. In open water, the 843 was always very good with light jigs. I can make the action of the rod effectively faster by fishing braid. A 1/4oz head and hula grub is something I'd commonly fish on a MBR843. So total weigh...

indeed, it is like breaking the seal =D> In the early 2000's I recall thinking for months about buying a MBR844 GLX. Then all my rods became GLX

Re: Want to buy one super high end rod - which one should it be?

you should really like that rod 8-) I scanned the reviews and it looks like my kind of rod. Most guys fishing it like a stout MH rod simply because it allows you to fish it that way. Most likely if anyone actually tested it they would find it was stronger then many H rods. I did a test where I put a...

Re: Want to buy one super high end rod - which one should it be?

The 894 NRX is a heck of a great rod for what you list. I fish lures from 1/4oz to 1oz on this rod and it does it all well. I fish mostly straight braid. The balance of the 894 is marginal so I have added a counterbalance using a chair leg protector that makes my balance perfect. I own an older mode...
