Re: Scorpion MGL

I guess I should add that many of the other reels I have owned are of the Scorpion quality ie plastic side plates such as the Tatula ct and many of the older Curados. It’s not my first rodeo so pump and wind and judicious thumb pressure are all part of my repertoire, as with all Barra fishermen low...

Re: Scorpion MGL

Well I have just read the biggest load of cods wallop I have heard in years, that is a picture of myself with that Barramundi, I have owned fleets of Middle to high end Shimano, Daiwa and Abu baitcasters over the last 30 years all used for saltwater Barra and this reel was the quickest to fail gear ...

Re: Scorpion MGL

Been using mine in the Salt catching Threadfin Salmon and also trolling and hard sticking Estuary Cod, so far so good, not a great deal of fish but a few that really put it through it’s paces. No problems casting, nice and smooth retrieve, I have the hg 7.4.

The freshwater only 3rd age MGL spool cuts it’s uses down drastically. https://www.jpfishingtacklenews.com/new ... rpion-mgl/

Re: Daiwa Z: Times Have Changed

I have the 200sh with 50lb whiplash that I use for pulling Barra from dirty country on a xxx Spinnerbait Special that I got stripped and spiral wrapped, an absolute powerhouse of a setup!

Re: IP68 Oracle

I think it is the same reel as the original IP68, with a dragon insignia, what they did different is made less than a hundred of them to create collector demand and bumped up the price.

Re: So who bought the ZPI Alcance?

The missing part is terrible but let’s face it, that non drive side plate is the true travesty here, those stamped numbers and badge gave me a little mouth vomit

Re: Scorpion Mgl

Righto, starting to get a bit more of a handle on Mgl spools as regards to saltwater, I am way too new and clumsy with this board system so I will quote what I have read with references to the sites. First was on Jpfishingtacklenews whereby they did an intro to the Scorpion Mgl and a comparison to t...

Re: Taking spooled reels on flights...

I have done a couple of overseas charters and on both of them spooled reels were a no go for carry on, I removed the spools and put them in a small pelican case in my check in luggage.

Re: Scorpion Mgl

Do you remember the Chronarch 150 Ci4+ it had the MGL (Magnumlite 7075A) spool... That spools edges that just mysteriously vanished... IMG_20190812_184448.jpg Case in point. I sure do mate, I believe shimano then changed them out for a 6000 alloy spool (sans magnesium I reckon) manufactured to the ...

Re: Scorpion Mgl

I might run it any way and when spool craps out replace it, have the K spool ready to go. It seems not all Mgl spools are created equal (as usual  ) a bit like digigear, Hagane, DC etc. According to Japantackle the Bantam Mgl is saltwater safe and the Mgl spool comes as standard in the new Ant...

Re: Scorpion Mgl

MGL no go with salt... Change the spool out to the Curado K and your OK. May as well buy the K itself, casts down to 5 gr easily with a good service and light spool shaft polish. Cheers, so I gather the Magnumlite spool contains magnesium (although they don’t actually say this) much like the chrona...

I thought some of the new daiwa stuff was a little muted. It would be nice though if the new coastal sv wasn't 2 shades of blue though.
It kinda is if you take into account the handle and spool tension compared to the side plates and frame, they have that lighter anodised look.

Lol...this is TT. There's threads dedicated to showing off "gaudy" reels. If you want plain jane looking stuff, Amazon has that.
