Re: Zillion sv TW 1000

Daiwa using the word "Hyper" so much in the description makes me think that this thing might have ADHD! Or maybe they really were feeling some German electronic music nostalgia in their brainstorming sessions  https://youtu.be/7Twnmhe948A I like the reel, as they went for the design details I ...

Re: Built for Finesse. Shimano's Curado MGL 70 K Baitcasters

Handle, knobs and some more bearings added. I don’t think going from normal to micro gear would add weight.

Re: Aldebaran MGL Spool

I was casting my friend's aldebaran mgl with 2 internal brakes on and the dial at 3 which was perfectly fine for me. I don't anticipate going up to 6 on the dial, so I think I'll go ahead and forego the plastic housing cup (I think it's bnt5888 for the lefty). If for some reason in the future I fee...

Re: Aldebaran MGL Spool

Sorry to bring back an old thread, but I recently fished my friend’s aldebaran mgl to compare to my regular 2015 aldebaran and noticed how much smoother it felt during a cast. Although my 2015 aldebaran is a fairly smooth caster, is there something besides the mgl spool and svs infinity 2 braking s...

Re: Custom Drop-Shot Rod

Thanks for all the info you guys shared. After reading all that guess if I go with a k2 blank it should be the 714. That should be able to handle 1/2oz weight plus the plastic. The "problem" with point blank is I don't know of a retailer in Europe. Shipping overseas is kind of a hassle. Between tra...

Re: Custom Drop-Shot Rod

I have not tried any Point Blank rod blanks yet. They sound fantastic though but I have ready they all tend to be heavier action, no true Finesse type actions, regardless of the label (just what I read here from guys I trust, no first hand experience). Also, does anyone know what happened to the RD...

Re: Custom Drop-Shot Rod

If you can wait... I have the SJ703 X-Ray here waiting to be built. Right away I can tell it’s less well balanced and has more weight to the tip than the Point Blank 701MLF. So even when built, the Point Blank should be the nicer rod in hand. Obviously I need to compare the sensitivity and can’t say...

Re: BFS Blanks for T Rig?

How ia the taper on the lower powered X Ray? I built 3 heavier ones and like the material. Pick your blanks here https://www.rodhouse.fr/en/shop/rod-blanks/north-fork-composites/x-ray Press on this French Button on the product page 4308545F-82B4-4C3F-8BB4-CCCE30829AEE.jpeg Have fun comparing 8D0901...

Re: 2020 Met MGL vs 2019 Antares

I own and love both. To me they cast the same - the most noticeable aspect is the weight. I wouldn’t put the Antares on anything lighter (actual weight and balance of the rod, not the power) than my 115g 7‘ MH rod. With that heavy of a real, lighter rods lose too much fun factor in handling.

Re: BFS Blanks for T Rig?

Looking forward to see your builds, sounds promising! Instead of a simple recommendation, I’d like to introduce you to the rodhouse.fr website. A French Shop (English version available) that has built a tool to show and compare the deflection of any blank in their inventory with different loads. (Al...

Re: MGL

The Antares spool is 13.2g, Metanium is 14.1g. Not entirely sure about the earlier generations. That’s with the bearing. Here’s a list I grabbed off youtube without the bearing for easier comparison. Curado 70 non mgl is 15.54g, I think that’s the biggest drop in weight. Metanium for example stayed...

We have a few popping up on the German market and the fellow anglers who could get one (not me) were so nice to post the spool‘s weight:

12.7g

I believe the brakes used from 2016 and on did a much better difference than the spool itself.
This could actually be very true
