Re: Gear Ratio for 1/4 oz crankbaits
Smaller crankbaits don't generate much resistance so a mid ratio like a 6.4 works fine. You just missed out on the Lews Team Pro at 149.99 in LH at Tackle Warehouse. That would have been a very good choice. haha I actually just picked one of those up, though I got it in a 7:1 - it's an amazing reel...

Re: Reeling Demographics... are you a righty or lefty
I retrieve lefty, and I am right handed. I never understood the swtich up every cast, though looking at the comments, there were very few options when they came out, which explains a lot.

Re: Gear Ratio for 1/4 oz crankbaits
nice thankyou - seems like I used that speed when I used to fish back in the early 2000s, just now picking it all back up again. I hope to get it right my first purschases. You all are great help.masterbass wrote:I prefer faster gears vs. 5.xxx for those depth cranks. 6.4 should be perfect.

Re: Gear Ratio for 1/4 oz crankbaits
Lews BB1L is left handed 5.1:1, 21 inches per turn. I have that reel. http://www.lews.com/casting-bb1.php But anyway you'll be fine with what you got. I actually prefer the 6 gear for medium cranks. I only use the 5 gear for deep diving cranks over 15 ft or swimbaits over 3 ounces that require supe...

Gear Ratio for 1/4 oz crankbaits
Hi guys, so I am back with a new question. I haven't had much luck with the searches. I want to know what gear ratio most of you guys use paired with say a 7 M or MH - mod action rod. I know the popular choice is around a 5:4 ratio, though Lew's doesn't make one in a left hand retrieve. Would I be a...

Re: Dobyn's Fury vs. 13 Fishing Omen 2 Casting
so guys - I pulled the trigger on the fury..I must say I give it a slight edge on the omen 2 casting rods. I like the reel seat, split grip, and smaller diameter blank. thanks for all help, think I will go with Dobyns in the future.

Re: Dobyn's Fury vs. 13 Fishing Omen 2 Casting
so guys..I am really pleased with Omen 2 rod in the 7'1" MH Fast - fist trip out with it I nailed two 3lb smallies on a zeko rig - it has great back bone - I had to muscle one over a tree that was submerged under water. I think I will get one more of these rods in a 7'6" for flipping. It compares to...

I send them off for repair or replacement - do they have a warranty?

Re: Dobyn's Fury vs. 13 Fishing Omen 2 Casting
thanks for the feed back guys - I just purchased the OMEN 2 in a 7'1" MH F - I still plan on picking up the fury at some point - it's just one of those things to where I have to give them both a chance, at the price point. thanks again!

is the 6:4 gear ratio ok for small cranks? I love the Lews LiteHennessy wrote:A revo mgx has a spool weight of 10 grams per tackle tour review. And my lews team lite throws small cranks just as far, if not farther. I use 8lb trilene 100% floro

Re: Best Casting Reel for Lite Crankbaits?
My T3 SV and SS SV both excel for this task, but they are on light bfs and med light regular fast rods and spooled with 20# power pro super slick, so that's an important part of the equation. My personal favorite baits are the 1/4 oz duo 48sr and 3/16 rozante 63sp. I also use them for spinbait 80's...

Re: Best Casting Reel for Lite Crankbaits?
A 3xd is 7/16oz which should be plenty heavy to get a 200 size spool moving. How are your brakes set? Maybe a set of bearings would spice things up a bit too. Or CBH's cq51 idea is always a good one. I have the Cronarch 201E, I have 2 on 4 off - i've tried going down to 1 on - thought he spool move...

Re: Best Casting Reel for Lite Crankbaits?
In my experience, the ability to cast lighter baits is governed by three things. 1. Spool weight...the lighter the spool, the less inertia that needs to be overcome to begin the cast, so the lighter the bait you can throw. 2. Rod design...a 7' med. lite or lite rod with a moderate action will load ...

Best Casting Reel for Lite Crankbaits?
I have a Shimano Chronarch 5:4:1, paired with a Gloomis e6X 7' Mod - it just doesn't cast light cranks very well, like bandits, bombers, 3xds...ect. I was hoping to get some feedback, love the rod, though the reel just isn't getting it done. Thanks!

Dobyn's Fury vs. 13 Fishing Omen 2 Casting
I am torn between the two. I know Dobyn's has the reputation, and 13 Fishing is trying to build one. I heard 13 has outstanding customer service. I hope to get a non biased feedback, from avid fisherman that have used both. I have yet to purchase or use either one, though want to pair a 7' MH or M F...
