Re: One Smart Fishy Opponent

Those 3/0 flipping hooks can make for a compact profile. If you really make sure it has it and get a really good hook set through the top of the mouth you should have it dead to rights as long as you pull it away from all that cover with the quickness. I don't know any other way to approach that sit...

Re: One Smart Fishy Opponent

I'd probably use a flipping rig, peg the sinker and bury the hook deep into the bait. 20# fluoro and an Owner Jungle hook. You got an extra heavy rod?

Re: DAIWA 18 ZILLION TW HLC 1516 SH

You know the USDM TWS spool only holds 10% less line, and they're really nice long cast spools, so that's always a good option for a higher capacity over the 1516.

That's a great looking ITO!

and milk chocolate drops? Never seen those before.
I think those are typically used for carp, though sometimes a catfish will go for them too.

Re: Round Reel Question

Also, I do consider Revos low profile precisely because of that gearbox. If it weren't shaped that way it would have the same profile as an Ambassadeur. A Zillion doesn't sit as low as an Alphas, but there's no denying that they're both LP reels.

Re: Round Reel Question

Right, they're cylindrical from both sides. If the handle side of a 100 sized reel is made up of two cylinders to accommodate the same gears which would normally go in a 200 sized reel in order to make the profile lower it's not exactly round anymore. It runs a little deeper than semantics, but admi...

Re: Round Reel Question

I mean, I get that these reels are predominantly round in shape and why they are classified as such, but for me part of the appeal of a round reel is that you can wrap your fingers all the way around the bottom of the reel seat without having your fingertips pressed into the gearbox. Take the Cover ...

Re: ICAST 2019

I know Daiwa has multiple new models to debut. I'm excited to see them and try them out. Yes indeed. I've fished quite a few of the new introductions, good stuff coming for sure from our Daiwa friends =D> Shouldn't we be seeing those Project Daiwa teaser videos by now? Or did they decide against th...

Re: Round Reel Question

To me a round reel should be round all the way around. When you incorporate a big, clunky, square gearbox on the side it ceases to become a round reel and starts becoming something different. Another example is the TD-X. It's low profile-ish, but among other things it doesn't have the LP gearbox geo...

Re: DAIWA 18 ZILLION TW HLC 1516 SH

The thing is the line you'd use for A Rigs probably won't be the same as what you'd use for deep cranks. So maybe get a spare 1516 type spool for the heavier A Rig line and spool the HLC with 12# Fluoro or 30# braid it whatever you want to use for the deep divers. Of course if you do that, the 1516 ...

SLX DC.
I am going to buy one just to encourage Shimano to produce reels with names I can pronounce.
Just for that Shimano is going to change the name to Eshellaleks.
That'll be the Shishamo version.
