Re: Anodizing a reel?

No parts can have aluminium and stainless rivets or dissimilar metals stamped into them. I went to a local anodiser and they said I would have to remove all the rivets on my Calcutta, inc AR housing etc to be properly anodised without causing further issues. Mind you were pretty limited here in Aus ...

At least one brake block on there is right

Can make more out of thin / hollow carbon or fibreglass rod tips cut to length and can double stack them for more braking etc...

Re: Older Shimano Bantam Scorpion 2000, any info?

Thanks LMG for the black and silver Curado pic - I had a pic somewhere but couldn't upload it. Basically the same reel to the Curado in most ways - will be a few parts differing for sure but a majority will swap out - bit like the Flipping Scorpion and the CU 200B; that's what I was also thinking th...

That's the old Gen 1 Curado frame. When the Curado was silver and black, I think before the "hot tomato" design.

Re: Calais dc brass gears?

There is non available that I know of as I have researched the gear set for the Calais DC extensively myself - well in Aus anyhow with the assistance of Shimano Aus. Ive bought a few spares (main and pinions) for the future (for both of my DC & 201 LV7) and using a ceramic based grease for the b...

Re: Core 50 MG - Magnesium Corrosion

Ive already spoken to Shimano Aus - tge body to replae is $180 & the gearbox "sideplate A" was $100 alone. Corrosion isnt covered under my conversation with them - even when stating their saltwater safe reel classification. Especially a second hand reel. Did some dry casting with the r...

Re: Bearings have me Perplexed

The bearing cages could've tightened by lateral pressure and if they were plastic they could've deformed.

Running metal caged bearings dry is a no go because of the added friction points - oil being the modifier and why the bearing performs when "wet".

Re: Ordering from Japan... Metanium MGL???

Question about the Bantam again... Does it really have the plastic pawl like the Curado K and 70? Curado K & 70 have plastic shafts and metal pawls. Well over here they do. Bantam has a aluminium shaft and plastic pawl - shocked me at first could've sworn it was ceramic but after a closer look ...

While i own basically every model prior to the K - I've had good use of all of them. After stripping it down and a little more than i should've with the top plate (but I'm always going to push it), and rebuilding it properly and with the 6.5:1 ratio gears instead of the XG gears its been a eye opene...

While the old thumb bar has been used extensively and can bend / droop, the newer style bar has merit in its design, be nice if it was more ergonomic and one piece.

The Curado DC an interesting development.

Re: Finish issues on newer Shimano baitcasters

While anodized surfaces are hard - theyre in the microns thick.

Only have to look how easy they can scratch and compare these to harder surface anodizing treatments of other small items which survive total abuse.
