Re: Core 50 MG - Magnesium Corrosion

Ive already spoken to Shimano Aus - tge body to replae is $180 & the gearbox "sideplate A" was $100 alone. Corrosion isnt covered under my conversation with them - even when stating their saltwater safe reel classification. Especially a second hand reel. Did some dry casting with the r...

Re: Bearings have me Perplexed

The bearing cages could've tightened by lateral pressure and if they were plastic they could've deformed.

Running metal caged bearings dry is a no go because of the added friction points - oil being the modifier and why the bearing performs when "wet".

Re: Ordering from Japan... Metanium MGL???

Question about the Bantam again... Does it really have the plastic pawl like the Curado K and 70? Curado K & 70 have plastic shafts and metal pawls. Well over here they do. Bantam has a aluminium shaft and plastic pawl - shocked me at first could've sworn it was ceramic but after a closer look ...

Re: Curado K

While i own basically every model prior to the K - I've had good use of all of them. After stripping it down and a little more than i should've with the top plate (but I'm always going to push it), and rebuilding it properly and with the 6.5:1 ratio gears instead of the XG gears its been a eye opene...

While the old thumb bar has been used extensively and can bend / droop, the newer style bar has merit in its design, be nice if it was more ergonomic and one piece.

The Curado DC an interesting development.

Re: Finish issues on newer Shimano baitcasters

While anodized surfaces are hard - theyre in the microns thick.

Only have to look how easy they can scratch and compare these to harder surface anodizing treatments of other small items which survive total abuse.

Re: Problems with my Curado K

Hard to say why either but i have a spare. The hood i thought was a replaceable part a consumable piece so that if it were scratched or damaged could be replaced ratger than the whole frame. That's where i am going with my thoughts - why replace a expensive frame if you can replace a plastic hood? T...

Re: Problems with my Curado K

Well having owned now numerous reels and service many which have had all sorts off issues ranging from minor mechanical to major corrosion. I cant see much difference in build other than the handle shaft support bearing, MM* gears, inner plastic scuff plate, and the multi piece frame from over previ...

Re: Problems with my Curado K

I remember seeing the build pics for the reel earlier on and thought that this Ci4+ plastic piece was removable and considered a replacement consumable part if needed - like other reels previously - lets be honest the top hood gets a flogging compared to other parts of the reel. As i mentioned previ...

Re: Problems with my Curado K

I just bought a lightly used second hand K. Came with a complimentary spare thumb bar plate in the box. Hmm what a design for a thumb bar? Couldn't it just have been a simple single piece moulding?? Also the question begs - has anyone removed the plastic frame hood (removal of 3 screws) ? Was yours ...
