Re: Finesse spinning gear set up

Yeah you want to at least play around with one spinning setup.

For my fishing the biggest difference is dropping light jigs down deep...sooo much easier and quicker on a spinning rod with light braid to floro leader.

Re: Megabass levante

Of the 3 spinning models available maybe one will appeal to you as others find them versatile enough to use them for that. Have you played around with the spinning rods? What kind of guides are on them? Looking for a non-dropshot all arounder...1/8 - 1/4oz jighead + finesse swimbait and small jerkb...

I have the 7'2ML BFS expride, I'm hoping it will work in similar applications to the 610. Couldn't find that 6'10 in stock anywhere lol...

Re: How many wraps for Alberto knot

Hmmm... Shin's knot looks like an Albright/double-uni hybrid. Interesting that it works. Have to try it. Looks like it would be super thin. It's just half an alberto knot lol...one thing I do is pass the braid through the floro loop twice before cinching everything down. In terms of strength, I've ...

Re: How many wraps for Alberto knot

Been tying the Shin Fukae "lazy" alberto for the past season...not one failure from 6lb to 20lb floro. I don't even tie FGs anymore...no unraveling of the braid tag end, flies through guides fine.

Not having to overlap wraps = 100% correct cinch every time.

Does it use the same reel seats as the XX?

Thanks.

Re: Dobyns vs Megabass vs Shimano

I have used Gen 1 MB Orochi XX Diablo and EMTF, Expride A 72 MHF and DX 744/DC 734. Of all these rods, the Expride and Diablo spec R were my favorite. That being said, the only rod on this list i still have is the Expride. Love the way they feel, sthe sensitivity they come with, balance, and respon...

Interesting. Is it as soft/limp as original x8?

How's it working out for you?

I like original x8...only complaint is it does seem to "hold" water some. Not great when you're trying to stay in contact with light jigs in deep water/current.

The CU70 is overdue for an update, just based on how "unsmooth" it is compared to the K.

Re: Megabass rod for swimjigs and frogs?

The reason I love it as a frog rod and why I’m trying to make it work as one is that my hook up to landing ratio has been so good that I don’t even post about it as no one will believe me. I think the sv103 is a bit heavy for it but it’s such a comfortably palming combo that I again want to try to ...

Re: Spinning rod - new Tatula or Phenix Feather

BTW, I'm not "cracking" tubes like they do in the Great Lakes, I'm slow dragging and hopping tubes in water that is less than 12' most of the time. You'll be fine with the Feather then, and no issues with hook penetration. I was more thinking about snapping a jig/tube (cracking, w/e) on a...

Re: Spinning rod - new Tatula or Phenix Feather

If the taper on the 7'1m Phenix is similar to the ML, it would be too slow to really crack a tube imo. Shaking, dropshotting, no problem. But when I want to really "pop" 1/6 - 1/4oz jigheads + trailer or tubes, the tip action is too slow on the Feather.
