Re: Making Conquests Lighter

Very interesting post. As a builder I always try to make the lightest rod I can and that usually comes down to components. Your modifications point this out. You can't make a great rod out of a poor blank, but you can make a good blank absolutely come alive with a wise choice of components. Love the...

Re: What's your rarest Oneten

You both have stuff I have not even heard of, much less seen. Maverick, your photography is always breath taking. My question is do the two of you fish those lures? If I went to the time and trouble to acquire them I don't think I could bring myself to fish them.

Re: Daiwa LT spinning reels

I have fished some of the LT reels and have not encountered this problem, but in all honesty my time with them has been limited. I hope to fish with some of the spinning reels this week and will watch for this problem.

Re: Rod Balance

I make every attempt to build the lightest rod possible. Sometimes it is hard to achieve anything resembling balance. I recently built a 6'6" heavy with a short handle, I did add weight to the butt to try to have some semblance of balance. This kind of goes against the grain for me but if you fish o...

Re: LOOKING FOR Below 4oz Bass Casting Rod

Edward78, I had offered to weigh some rods when I got back to work today. Well I did weigh some and made some notes. That piece of paper is now in the washing machine along with the shirt I wore today. Sorry. I am going to try to summarize things as best as I can remember. I'm 65 so no guarantees as...

Re: '19 Steez ct sv tw

Well the news is that US retailers or not doing any price gouging. You can buy the reel from one of the Japan dealers for less than the US dealers are paying. I don't understand Daiwa's pricing policy and they certainly don't have to explain it to me but right now US dealers would be better off buyi...

Re: LOOKING FOR Below 4oz Bass Casting Rod

Well I have not weighted one but the Shimano SLX is a light rod and lists for $100. St. Croix has the Bass-X at $100 also but for me the Avid is a much better rod at $200 MSRP. I do not know the weights on any of them but if you have not decided by Tuesday I could weight them for you. TFO has some n...

Re: Who is the MOST over rated ?

I know we have gotten off track but I can't help myself. First the guy who works for Shimano says don't buy anything from China apparently without reading the "made in" stickers on almost all of the Shimano product. Companies that made all their rods in the US were getting killed on the low end by r...

Re: Who is the MOST over rated ?

Of the current rods the E6X, in my hands, is no better than the current list of $100 rods. In the $100 list the SLX feels much better than the Exage or the BassX, to me. The top end St. Croix I like but not a fan of the lower end. Liked the Shimano Crucial not the Clarus. So I guess for me it is not...

Re: Under wraps

Was hoping you would chime in Matt as I have made a few Muskie rods and never did under wraps. Was wondering if I should have. I guess I will stop second guessing myself.

Yeah, I understand the why. Just never thought they were necessary or even desirable on a bass rod. It was a first for me.

Under wraps

So out of all the rods that I have repaired, I'm sure some of you have done more, I ran into something today that I have never seen. The first rod building class I took, something like 20 years ago, we did an underwrap on the guides. At that time the instructor stated that unless you were doing a bo...

Re: Nasci?

Shimano has a full line of reels in the 1000 size and they are all fine products. Daiwa also has an extensive line up. My son has two Revros and they have held up well. The Fuego is certainly a nice reel in the 1000 or any other size. My own vote goes to the BG, it is a tank of a reel. I have a 1500...
