Re: Fluoro on Gekkabijin

How does the deep spool work in a gekkabijin? Looking for a finesse spool that can throw 1/4 oz well still but have like capacity. Where I fish, you can hook a small spotted bay bass or a bay ray. Had a few short bfs trips because of being spooled by a ray.

Re: You can only take one ….

Fat Ika or cover scat. Does everything I need them to do at my local lakes. The cover scat works good on the bottom, backsliding into cover, twitched in, hover strolling, etc. one of the only baits I throw that I can get them in most of the water column. Even had one crush it on top when I was burni...

Re: Good Mono???

Sunline defier has been my go to. I like that is has much less stretch compared to other lines on the market. A bit thicker but it seems to be strong and hold up after time. If I am in a pinch and need mono for my cranks or topwaters, good old Berkley big game has been very good to me. Memory is ter...

Re: Light Braid to Heavier Leader

I actually do this a lot when I’m fishing for local saltwater bass. These fish aren’t huge (4lbs is about the biggest I’ve seen) so they are a blast in light bfs tackle. Problem is, they are around some nasty cover. Boat docks, props, oyster and clam crusted pilings, etc. the heavier 15-20lb leaders...

Re: Was Braided Line a Game Changer for You?

It is situational to me, incredible for super light line presentations where a long cast is required since it is so strong and thin. I feel like braid has a lack of sensitivity on slack line applications like jigs. In that case, fluoro is key for me. I love that slack line bite on fluoro on baits li...

Eye Surrender Sunglasses! Cheap, tough, killer warranty, and the lenses are nice and clear. Went from Raybans and Maui Jim’s to these.

Re: Which is your preferred Large Mouth Bass Finesse Technique

Recently, the OSP dice has been a killer technique for me. I didn’t believe in them till I threw it at a clear lake and saw the fish rise up to eat it. It just mesmerizes them. Finicky fish and clear lakes, flyline a dice on 4lb and watch them go bonkers,

Re: Tackle Shops to Visit in Japan

TackleBerry, Joshuya Jumbo, and Sansui are the best shops I went to while in Japan, tackleberry had the best selection of used lures and reels. Some of the reels looked basically brand new and the prices were unbeatable. Sansui had the best specific selection for bass and trout. Joshuya was the most...

Re: Backpacks

For lighter duty fishing and backpacking, the Caperlan 3 in 1 bag has been very good for me. Has 3 different ways to use the bag, 15L capacity, and has a small little hip/chest attachment. Has been a great bag so far.

Re: Surf fishing (spinning) rods for jerkbait halibut in Socal area?

The Saltist Inshore West coast series is hard to beat for the price. Has the taper you want for a 110 for sure. I use the ML 9 foot, and my buddy uses the 9 foot M. Both are killer for the 110 and we have got some serious fish on them. Biggest was a 6 lb bonito off of Catalina using small jigs. I li...

I saw that there is a new bearing in town. The MC Squared bearings. Looks to be a dual ball system in 1 bearing. KTF switched to them so they must be pretty good. Just saw them on Instagram

Re: Daiwa Back Bay

I’ve got the 7’6 M and agree this rod is so under rated. Nice soft tip to keep fish pinned on well but transitions to a crazy backbone. I got mine to match my 3000 Saltist back bay for bay bass on the west coast and it is my go to rod to throw everything from Ned rigs to 4 inch Swimbaits

Re: 2022 Exist

2022 exist is the 2018 on steroids. Lighter startup inertia, lighter reel, and an overall smoother retrieve. I’ve caught 12-15 lb catfish on accident while dropshotting on 6lb and have had no issues at all. I am currently using the 2500-XH model and it has been amazing so far. The Certate is no slou...

Re: Favorite type of topwater bait?

Definitely a popper for me. These last couple years have been lights out with a Lobina Rico and Rio Rico. The fry color is my favorite. The bass in my home lake love this color and it outproduces all the other colors I’ve used. My favorite *type* of topwater is a walk the dog style. My single favor...
