Re: "Candy" bait?

Not sure if it is the bait he used but it is almost identical to the OSP "Dice Rubber". No clue what it is trying to imitate.

Re: Dobyns 745 HP

I have the 745 and it makes a great football jig rod, decent 1/2oz and less jig rod, good texas rig rod. Im sure it would work well for moving baits as well like swim jigs and swimbaits but I use mine with bottom contact only, usually a 1/2oz texas rig or 1/2oz jig for me with 20lb floro. Im sure it...

Re: Who is the MOST over rated ?

I might get some hate for this but I cannot stand the NRX and the ZBones. I will give it to them that both are very sensitive, but both are horribly balanced and I just cant fish with them. I also refuse to put something on a $500+ rod to help balance it out, makes no sense to me. I personally will ...

Re: “Finesse” Jig rod

Thank you, I was struggling when I was posting to find the word compact haha, for some reason only the word Finesse came to mind but yes you are correct I am talking compact jigs. Thanks everyone for the suggestions and there are a few I am going to check out.

Re: “Finesse” Jig rod

I use them quite often so not a big deal on budget but would like to keep under $400, no brand preference, really only criteria is the mod fast to fast action and over 7’ since I am fishing fairly deep water and want the extra line pickup.

“Finesse” Jig rod

Hey guys, just wanting some input into what guys are using for throwing “Finesse” jigs. Now I put a quote in because when I’m talking Finesse I’m meaning more of a Mike Iaconelli mini flip 3/8-1/2oz, OutKast Feider stealth Jig in 3/8-1/2, or anything similar. I will occasionally go down to a 1/4oz b...

Re: Looking for a MH Spinning Rod w/ Moderate Action...

Denali makes one in the lithium line, 7’4” MH Mod-Fast. Pretty good balance And more on the moderate side I think than fast. Otherwise Phenix Rods are usually more on the moderate side even though they say fast, and some of the St Croix walleye Rods as stated before.

St Croix Legend rods

So I’m looking to grab a few new rods and am wanting some legit intel on some of the different legend models. I am looking specifically at the Legend Tourney and Legend X (elite reviews are fine as well since basically the same rod). I am looking at the 7’5” HMF Tourney rod vs the 7’4” H Legend X, a...

Re: Ice rods

Used to ice fish, hate staring down a hole and looking at a bobber... so in turn quit ice fishing other than maybe once a year when I go up north with some friends her in MN. Usually panfish or walleye around here, and I will use mid range stuff in the 28”-32” range, UL to ML. I use braid to floro l...

Re: Phenix Feather

If you would be throwing up to the 5” Senko on it I would go with the 7’1” M spinning rod. Phenix Rods tend to be lighter than their designated ratings. I use my 7’1” for 4” Senko, Ned rigs, shakyheads, lighter tube jigs, spybaits, etc. The L action may be a little too light for handling bigger bait...

Re: Phenix Feather

Yeah the reel seat is something to get used to for sure, might be the way i position my hand with just my pinkie below the reel foot so it doesn’t bother me. That said I’m pretty neutral on the reel seats, there are definitely much better and more comfortable, but it doesn’t bother me at all either ...

Re: Spinning rod - new Tatula or Phenix Feather

I make my tube jigs using the same hooks, never have an issue hooking up with this rod and have used it for basically a full season at this point. Again I don’t think you would have any issues with it for what you are wanting to use it for. They do make the 7’1” H if you wanted a heavier model, budd...

Re: Spinning rod - new Tatula or Phenix Feather

I don’t really use them up here in MN, but jigworms are similar and I use them a ton to rip out of the milfoil and the rod works great for them. I use braid to floor leader so that does help to make it a little “stiffer” compared to just floro. I wouldn’t say you would have an issue with it at all.

Re: Spinning rod - new Tatula or Phenix Feather

I’ll start off by mentioning I don’t have the new Tatula to compare to, but have owned the tat elites and original tat rods for comparison. I do have 2 of the Feather 7’1” M rods, and to me the feel closer to a ML+ or a Medium with a med-Fast actoin. I use both of mine specifically for tubes when fi...

Re: Phenix Feather

I really like my 7’1” M feathers. I have two of them, use them for just about everything. I really like them for tubes, jig worms/shakeyheads, Neko rigs. I have been very impressed with sensitivity with all of my feathers, they haven’t left me wanting more especially for the price. The one thing abo...
