Re: Best rod size
After all these years, I'm still using 6'6"rods a lot. Recently, I was using a friend's St Criox 6'9" med-light spinning rod for dropshotting and I absolutely love this rod. I think it would work hreat for other applications.

need information about quantum baitcast levelwind systems
Hi everyone. I have a pretty large collection of Quantum baitcast reels going all the way back to 1984. I recently noticed that on the more modern baitcasters including the PT's, the levelwind doesn't engage when line is being pulled against the drag, only when the line is being retrieved. On all of...

Re: carolina rig rod?
sure. it'll get you by. longer rods are preferred because they take up more line on the hookset and you usually have more line out when carolina rigging than say texas rig or when using a crankbait. some say to use a lower gear ratio reel, i use a high speed reel when Carolina rigging because, like ...

Re: medium vs medium light
mattman said it all right. i really don't equate power with sensitivity. i equate action with sensitivity. rods with fast action tapers are more sensitive than slower action rods. i think gary loomis said it best when he said he could make an indestructable rod but you wouldn't want to fish with it....

Performance Tuned Next Generation
I was curious if anybody has one of the new Quantum PT spinning reels yet? (Energy, Catalyst, Kinetic). I've been watching to see if TT does a review. The new line roller looks better but does it reduce line twist? I was also curious about the mag lock feature. I'd like to know how the next generati...

Re: No. of bearings
I think I'll weigh in on this topic by saying I think entirely too much attention is focused on the bearing count by anglers when buying a reel. This is very misleading as there are a lot of reels out there with a high number of bearings but cheap construction (frame, gearing, drag). I'm not saying ...

MO anglers...you don't look bad because of one jerk. people like that are more the exception than the rule. After all, MO will always have it's reputation... johnny morris knows.. Missouri is where it all started and the rest is history.

Re: 12/04/05--Finally got to go Bassin'--6 Bass
Throw them away??? Geez man, I'd be happy to take 'em off your hands. All you need is a hone or hook sharpener. No need to toss them. I have strike king jigs that are 20 years old that I still use. Anyway, here's what I do after I open a new bass jig. I take a pair of pliers and gently bend the hook...

Re: Your Fav Bass Lake?
anybody know a good lake with cypress trees or plenty of standing timber? not many lakes like that around here (southwest PA). Bassmasters said they're never having the Classic in Pit again. Ha! I knew if anybody could do it, it would have to be VanDam. I don't like bass fishing on the three rivers....

Re: Pardon ignorance: What makes a 'dropshot' rod?
okay, if I understand the question...the recommended rod for dropshotting is 6 1/2'-7 1/2' light to medium-light power, fast action. The soft tip makes the twitching presentation easier. It's just a recommendation. You don't have to have a "dropshotting rod" I use a 6 1/2' medium power fast action s...

Re: Your Fav Bass Lake?
yeah, in fact, the world record smallie was from Dale Hollow. I've heard of the rig. I haven't tried it. I actually do most of my smallie fishing on Lake Erie where the smallies are bigger than the largemouth. It's not unusual to catch 6 lb smallies on the lower great lakes. Mostly we use grubs on 1...

Re: does the lenght of the pole really matter? if so for wat
i don't know that i agree that longer rods are better. it all depends on the situation. I will say that the longer the rod, the more line is moved on the hookset. That's why long rods are recommended for rigs with leaders like the Carolina rig. Shorter rods like 6' have their place as well. I like t...

Re: How many fishing reels do own?
ya, i remember buying one of the "MG" reels when they first came out in 1984. That was the year Quantum started. Nobody heard of them and they didn't really catch on at first. The MG was the most affordable and durable baitcast reel in low profile and I knew the zebco name all my life. Low profile r...
