Re: I Need Help Choosing a Inshore Reel!
+1 on the Battle for that price point. For stripers, I'd go for the 4000/20 lb. braid.

Re: Your lightest Ultralight combo
I never weighed any of my setups but I would think it has to be my Okuma SST IM8 6' UL rod coupled to my Tica SB500. I don't use this setup much because I like to bring out the 7' SST/Symetre 1000 FL more often.

Re: New guy from Northern Colorado
Between the 2, I'd get the Stradic just for ease of getting parts and a spare spool.

Re: UL technique changes
I hear ya! Too much tackle makes it fun but tend to confuse things sometimes. We might be in the same boat (no pun intended)

Re: UL technique changes
I own several UL's up to 7' . The 7 footers are great for throwing float and fly(jig) rigs . But I find , for throwing jigs where accuracy is important a shorter Rod is better . I do a lot of jig swimming . I fish out of a jon boat 70% of the time and usually take 3-4 rods with me . I'm trying to g...

Re: UL technique changes
Looks like you need a tackle change more so than a technique change. If distance is an issue, move to a lighter line or braid of the same strength. Either that or increase the weight of your lure and/or length of your rod. Especially with UL/L gear, you'd want to position yourself, if possible, to u...

Re: Landing Net
Thanks Frankw!
I was able to find the Brodin Trout Bum net at Fishwest and purchased it. $49 and free shipping. Until then I'll carry a regular hand net/scoop net with me.

Mosquitoes
I just found out that there's a nice freshwater stream very near to my house - walking distance. I want to try the ton of lures I've been purchasing for UL on some SM that seems to be thriving in these streams/small ponds. Question: What do you guys use to ward off the mosquitoes? They love me - I'm...

Re: Landing Net
I have an EGO Slider II with rubber mesh. While it is pricey it has been more than worth the money. I fish a lot from the bank in big rip rap and at times cannot get right to the edge of the water. Using 2# test line I net most of my catch. It makes it easy as it is extendable. I also have a kayak ...

Re: Landing Net
thanks. Some these can get pretty pricey. I see some at over $100. that's more than my setup.
Does anyone here use the expensive ones for UL?
