Re: Drag slipping in cold weather

In the past with many daiwa spinning reels from the late 90s until 2010 the anti-reverse would fail to function in really cold weather. I took one apart, a daiwa tierra 3000 thinking it was grease on the A/R rollers and sleeve. They were completely dry. I think some component in the A/R system was c...

Re: Thank You Bamtam1

Thanks a bunch!!! The info you provide is such a huge help. I repair 20-30 reels a year on the side for all my buddies and guys I know from the tourney circuit. Shimano's have always been my favorite reels, and it's an added bonus to have a company man on this forum to answer questions. Much appreci...

Re: Noisy Curado 201HG's

Thanks for all the replies. The noise is not a high pitched squeak but more like rough sandpaper rubbing on something. I changed the x-ship bearing and this didn't seem to make any difference. Now the only thing I can see making the noise is the bearing underneath the clutch cam retainer or the One ...

Noisy Curado 201HG's

I've got 2 of these reels I've done complete tear downs and cleanings on, and they are both very noisy on the retrieve. I noticed some signs of rust in and around the A/R roller. I'm guessing this could be the cause of the noise? I did replace the frame bearing under the drive shaft on one of them a...

For me I go by this...
Gears - grease
Worm gear - grease
Frame bearings - grease
Spool bearings - oil

^^^ just like this. I usually stick to shimano lubes for everything. Paying high prices for "magic" oil is a waste of cash IMO

rust removal

I've been cleaning/repairing a batch of reels for a buddy. The reels seem to have more rust on average than what I've seen in my time at the bench. The worst spots seem to be the A/R roller clutches, the spool bearings, and often the bearing which sits on the bottom of the main shaft and nests into ...

Re: Reel Repair Question

I'm glad I saw this post. I gave my buddy an old curado super free and it has been doing this. I'm going to stick in some yoke springs that were made this century and see if it helps!!

CU-201 DHSV new handle and nut plate options?

This question is for anyone. I'm cleaning a bunch of oldies but goodies for a buddy and his handle is destroyed on a CU201DHSV. If at all possible I always try and order all my parts through shimano, so looking for any OEM handles that will fit this reel, look good, and not break the bank.

Magnesium reels ultrasonic safe?

I'm cleaning a buddy's CH51Mg and the corrosion on it is about as bad as I've ever seen. Just wondering if anyone has tried throwing a magnesium reel frame into an ultrasonic cleaner before? I'll be using lukewarm water and dawn dish soap. Thx.

question on an old part

I'm wondering if there's any replacement for Part# BNT1207 roller clutch bearing. This was the one from all the old classic reels(and some of my all time favorites). Curado 200B, Chronarch 100A, etc. If anyone else has a source for these and wants to let me know that'd be great. Before submitting th...

Re: Gear replacements

I've replaced many brass gear sets in shimano low pro casting reels. In my youth I had a bunch of old curado B reels that I used until shelled out. The gears were dry and although still worked, they were loud and had lots of vibration. I've also replaced gears in several curado E7s. The reels I use ...

looking at skipping rods

Hey dudes, I'm looking at trying a new jig skipping rod. For years I've used a 7' MH St. Croix Avid and it has served me well. I'd like to try a rod that is just a hair shorter and have it narrowed down to these 2 rods Fitzgerald Bryan Thrift 6'9" skipping rod (9 micro guides, 14 1/2 inch handl...

Reel frame painting

I picked up 3 CH100D7's that I did compete refurbs on: new main/pinion gears, worm shaft, line guide pawl, cross carbon drag washers, pawl cap, handle knobs, etc. etc. I fished the reels for the first time this week and very happy with them. I'm curious if anyone can paint the frame and/or side plat...
