Re: gears for baitcasters

I would say no, most of the "cold forged" gears in spinning reels that are cast zinc aren't as precise plus it would make more sense to cut helical gears for finer teeth. They could use a cold forged alloy but I'm sure something like 7075t6 or 6061t6 would be a lot cheaper and be plenty strong and w...

Re: gears for baitcasters

It amuses me that alot of gears in spinning reels claim cold forged gears that are usually cast zinc. I would think cold forged gears would be cost prohibitive for a baitcasting reel.

Re: Is there a braid better than Spiderwire Ultracast?

Ultracast has coastal camo and so does suffix, I like the Castaway as well, but for the money I prefer the ultracast.

Re: Do you like ABU reels?

nice collection of round reels Slazmo. what is the one on the far right? An Abu Ambadsadeur Ultra Mag XL 2. Just picked it up randomly one day, quiet interesting a reel however. Keeps a lot of the old world charm with a flair of new age built in. It's that transition between round and low profile w...

Re: Any good Aliexpress spool bearings

I've had good luck with trb bearings from eBay, they would be cheaper than some of those AliExpress bearings.

Re: Zero adjuster

My Coastal SV was horribly overbraked until I loosened the zero adjuster up. In fact its the only thing I don't like about the reel, Id much rather have a regular spoon tension knob.

Mine are a bit beat up
They look great! That PE special is one sweet looking real. Love that JDM SH picture as well; wet, muddy, dinged up. A true workhorse!
They are all a little muddy looking because of all the pine pollen

Re: Ultimate speckled trout set-up

LOL- same here! I ordered two spools of Castaway for this fall. Expectations are high for some epic stories like this. 😃 Hope I didn't oversell this stuff. With that said, I ordered a spool for my Steez A (which is going full SW) and my Daiwa Certate 4000. All in! I tried it and liked it, b...

Re: Tat Elite vs Zillion SV

If purchasing a new daiwa and wish to fish salt or dirty water steer clear of full shaft spools that don't have a bearing mounted on the spool shaft. That design has an inherent flaw that allows water to enter the reels gearbox along the spool shaft requiring continued maintenance as the pinion bea...

My favorite other than a senko is the wave worms bamboo stick, they are thicker and fall slower. I do want to try the pocket rockets.

Re: Lews Winn paddles

Has anyone tried the Winn paddles on a daiwa handle? I love the Catalina reels except for the big foam grips and want to change to something slimmer. The only paddles that will fit are the Tatula/Tat CT paddles. The Lews knob posts are 1mm larger diameter than Daiwa knob posts. Thanks, looks like I...
