Re: Higher End Affordability, Pflueger's Patriarch XT Spinning Reel

The Patriarch is not a bad reel, it's average just like the review concludes. When compared to top performers like the Stradic CI4+ or the Daiwa balistic I think it's a no brainier. I would choose the daiwa or shimano, save a few bucks and get a better reel.

Re: Shimano Calcutta 200b vs 200gtb???

I have owned both reels and to be honest in the real world there’s not a huge difference. The whiffle spool will cast a little bit further but that's it. The drilled out frame does cut a small amount of weight be it's mostly for looks.

Great review. I hope you do a shootout between the Stella & Steez, that would be sweet.

Re: Cal's review of the TWS Zillion confirmed what we feared

So you are saying that Daiwa Ballistic 2500 represents entire manufacturing done by China, or Malaysia? Yes, it is cost cutting move to build factories in China, but it doesn't mean quality it self is lower. How many people like Stradic Ci4+ or Curado I? they are certainly made in Japan. You still ...

Re: Cal's review of the TWS Zillion confirmed what we feared

Why does this matter. I know Apple/Megabass have production in China. I will 100% still buy them since they are excellent products. Computers are one, thing but when it comes to reels there's a reason most of the high-end models like the stella, chronarch, Calcutta, conquest, TDZ, and steez are made...

My bad, my balisic is made in china. I agree with trent_s, it's still a downgrade.

Re: Cal's review of the TWS Zillion confirmed what we feared

Daiwa fumbled the redesign of one of their most iconic reels. ](*,) Wish I had a collection of them on a shelf...funds being what they are, I may have to be happy with my two Zillions... Surely I can find an excuse to buy one more :-k That's a shame Daiwa has cheapened one of their best line of ree...

Re: Availability of Parts

I have a few Sustain reels which are some of my favorite reels. They perform flawlessy with regular cleaning and serviceing. My problem is with my favorite one, Sustain 2500 FD. Purchased around 2004, it recently snapped at the body of the reel while fighting a decent fish. No, I didn't drop it. Ju...

Re: Shimano Canis Casting Rods

I still have a few Canis rods. These were boron blanks and that is why they are brittle. The value all depends on the person who wants to buy it. I have seen them sell from $100-300 depending on the model. Great rods but the newer carbon materials are far superior to boron. I know this is older thr...
