Probably going to be hard to upgrade an OG FMJ if you want to stay at 7'1. There's always the 844 in the NRX+ if you dig the MBR taper.

So I threw a 6" Magdraft on the stock spool this Spring with 16 lb. Sniper and for Fall I'd like to both move up to 18 lb. and get a little more line capacity. P5 Super Destroyer is your rod. It excels at the techniques you mentioned. It's also a very good caster for being a shorter rod.

Daiwa spool sizes used to make some sense. Iirc, 1016 spool was 100m of 16 lb (.33 mm diameter). 1012 was then 100m of 12 lb, and so on. For three digit codes, 100, 103, and 105 were progressively shallower and I believe pretty consistent capacity wise across reels.
