Re: Swimming Unweighted Worms Rod

893c NRX has a really nice tip for casting those baits, and still has plenty of backbone to get them out. I use that rod with a Chronarch or Metanium and 40lb braid. I also add a 1/16oz weight when needed. The Ultravibe Speed Worms and Cutter Worms cast pretty good already, but the weight gives you ...

Re: Conquest 101 doesn’t cast far anymore

I had this happen with one of my Curado 51e. Started only casting half as far as the other I was using. Swapped gears to Core set, and installed a new spool and it was fixed, and still have no clue what caused it. Spool shaft and pinion looked fine, no obvious damage.

Re: Shimano Conquest 101?

Cool, just checking. It's a common problem with the bearings down here in the saltwater. Sounds like you've got it narrowed down.

Re: Shimano Conquest 101?

Have you tried cleaning the bearings(pinion, driveshaft, Xship) and ARB? I get reels from friends to clean all the time that think they need new gear sets and it's usually just the bearings needed cleaning. With what you said about it smoothing out for a short time after regreasing the gears, it def...

Re: Shimano Loomis Conquest rods

Thank you guys, I appreciate it. That fish put on a show when I set the hook, and was lucky to get it all in the frame! Wirinhar- That grip is called Accu-Cull Grip Saver, basically a rubberized heat shrink wrap for rod handles. I liked it at first, but once it started to wear, would blister my hand...

Re: Shimano Loomis Conquest rods

I've caught more bull redfish on the 842NRX than any that I own  It's so difficult to recommend rods on here, everybody fishes things differently. Everything you named is right in the NRX's range in my hands, except for a 3/8oz skirted jig with heavy hook, light wire isn't an issue. The tip isn...

Re: Just got a Tarpon 100!!

You'll have a lot of fun in that kayak. Nice and light for dragging to difficult to access spots, and should handle any type of fishing you want to do. I also rarely use my boat anymore, unless I'm fishing a tourney. Fun fishing is a blast out of the kayak, and soooo much cheaper! Adding a rudder is...

Re: Braid with leader for crankbaits

For leader length, I make it slightly longer than the rod, maybe a foot or less(reel knot to tip, unroll line one rotation past rod butt, clip line). That way when I have the lure hanging from the tip ready to cast, the knot is right in front of the reel. Longer leaders as mentioned above allow you ...

Re: Taper Characteristics of Different Rod Brands?

I'd definitely like to know what you come up with. Love the more moderate rods for frog fishing. Started experimenting years ago, and found that I really liked frogging with a shorter, Heavy powered cranking rod. Ratings to 1 1/4 or 1 1/2oz and that moderate fast bend kept fish hooked up better than...

Re: Braid with leader for crankbaits

I also use braid for my crankbaits. Usually 30lb 832 to a 14-20lb leader depending on what depth I want it to run. I use a softer rod than Id use with straight fluoro and have no problem with losing fish. I never go straight braid as I've seen it spook fish several times. Line passed over fish befor...

Re: Brand new PDL!

So I'm coming up on a year and a half with this kayak, and feel I can now give a good short review after some hard use. Always fish at least 5 days a week, and often fish 7, so it's been used a lot. If you have any questions about this kayak, let me know. I'm not involved with this company in any wa...

Re: Core 51Mg7 Handle Upgrade

Good question! The nut fits, but the screw hole in the retainer is a little off. I just used a small drill bit to make it work, because that retainer looks a lot better than the factory plastic ones.

Re: Core 51Mg7 Handle Upgrade

The 96mm handle does fit, but barely touches the drag star. Star is still fully adjustable, and doesn't cause any issues. I could see it scratching the paint on the drag star eventually after a lot of use, but mine hasn't scratched at all with the 84mm handle.

Re: Core 51Mg7 Handle Upgrade

Yes, Chronarch handle is 96mm as well, and would definitely look better. Just got home but I'll try one out in a few and report back.

Re: Curado 70 Gears

I've seen this question brought up before, so for anyone interested I received a very detailed response from Bantam(which I have to commend him for getting the info for me, very quick response as well =D> ) and the short answer is no it will not work.
