Re: Custom Paints

Things are getting back to normal quickly, and I’ve been able to get back painting some baits. Finally got around to doing a new pattern that I’ve been thinking about for a while. Everyone knows big Speckled Trout love some Croakers, so here’s my first try at doing a Croaker. Stripes/spots need to b...

Re: 200e7 Thumb Bar

Usually has something to do with the pinion gear not able to move. When fishing in the salt, the pinion bearing can corrode and stick to the pinion gear. Have also seen it occur from fishing in heavy rain. Could also be a burr on the pinion gear, but the pinion gear/bearing is where I would start lo...

Re: American Tackle Components

New carbon grips are ok. Good looking, quite light (without own winding checks). I've built several. Full and split grips. Very easy to assemble as theres own arbor inside grip already. They are slippery, if you have slimy hands. Only water doesn't make it very slippery. New CCT seat are awesome! R...

Re: "older" shimano casting reels

Still have a bunch of 51E’s, 201E’s and 51mg’s, but have been slowly selling them off for some of the newer stuff. Newer reels cast so much further and have a lot more power with Xship. I haven’t had any issues out of them yet. Own a couple new Mets, ‘13 Mets and Chronarchs on my freshwater combos, ...

Re: Lucky craft issues

I carry size 4 and 6 Mustad KVDs and 4 and 6 Owner st-36. With those hooks, I’m able to tune any Pointers to suspend in any conditions. All the opinions on changing the action is overblown and have never seen a negative affect on my catch rate. Thing is, sometimes they want a slow float, sometimes t...

Re: American Tackle Components

Thank you for the responses and PMs! Been doing my research and this info is very much appreciated. These components are so new that’s there’s not much info out there. Rod building is so much fun, but can be difficult to know what you are getting. Went ahead and ordered some grips from Forecast and ...

Re: Custom Paints

We might get down your way in October. I'll let you know in advance this time! Well, doesn’t look like that’s gonna happen now :( We took a pretty good hit on this one. Luckily it was no Ivan (Sally made landfall on the same exact date, in the same exact location at almost the exact time Ivan...

Re: Enough with the tackle. LETS SEE SOME FISH!

I was having a hard day on the water. It was my first day in months and I had bites but somehow failed to process it. I had a solid six lber in the pads but it felt weightless and so i gently pulled up only to see the fish kiss me goodbye.. Out of shear desperation I picked up the Megabass DTC and ...

American Tackle Components

Any one try out any of these newer seats and grips and have any opinions on them? I see a few very nice looking rods on here that were built with these products, but not many reviews of the products. How do the reel seats feel? Do you feel any edges or anything that’s uncomfortable about them? Looki...

Bearings

Need to restock some bearings and haven’t looked around at prices in awhile. Where can I find some good deals on quality stainless frame bearings. Looking for some 10 packs or other bulk deals. Thanks!

Re: Custom Paints

These are the pics that make me happy. This is one of those Bonnies I painted for a friend, and he’s already seeing success with it and sending some pics like this nice redfish. Love it!

Re: Custom Paints

Nice paint jobs! I cut way down on hook rash by coating the swing path of the hooks with clear nail polish. Thanks Mark! I appreciate the advice, the tip on using super glue to stop hook rash worked great. Used the Gorilla Glue with the brush and normal tip(best glue for fishing I’ve found period) ...

Re: Custom Paints

These 2 patterns have been catching a lot of nice fish around here, so I’ve been getting some requests from friends for repaints. Did these Jackall Bonnies and I like the way they turned out. Always interesting what a mistake can lead to. Here’s a couple pics, before and after. https://i.postimg.cc/...
