Re: Curado I or Chronarch E
It depends on the intended use of the reel. I’ve used the Chronarch E, Curado E and the Curado I extensively for inshore fishing and for that purpose the second bearing supporting the pinion gear of the Curado I (X-Ship) can make the difference between the gears binding or continuing to crank a larg...

Re: Reeling Demographics... are you a righty or lefty
Part of the reason is that lefties are much more used to using their non-dominant right hand since so many devices require use of the right hand. But I’m also a leftie and learned to fish with a right-hand baitcast reel. It was so natural I couldn’t understand why right-hand baitcast reels, which ne...

Re: Reeling Demographics... are you a righty or lefty
Ever wonder why right-hand baitcast reels have handles on the right side? The very first baitcast reels were held like a spinning reel, upside down, while fishing. The rod handles did not have a trigger, and the gears were designed for left-hand cranking. But the reel had to be turned right-side up ...

P-Line CXX. I haven’t tried them all, but I’d say this is the best co-poly I’ve used.

Re: Curado I tension cap bearing
I got it out just by taking the spool tension knob off to flush my bearings. It was a tight fit though. Now that's what I wanted to hear. Thanks for the confirmation as well fishingandford I will definitely try again and check the wells for knicks. You may try opening the non-handle sideplate and s...

Re: Curado I tension cap bearing
There are two bearings under the spool tension. The outer bearing has the inner diameter of the spool shaft, and is a spool bearing (1 of the 2 spool bearings). I believe this is the one that is accessible from removing the spool tension/CC knob. The inner bearing has the inner diameter of the end ...

Re: Shimano Chronarch 150 CI4 and Curado I questions
The Curado I spool is wider than the spool on the Calcutta 300D. and the 200e's spool is even wider, no? Yes, it is. The spool on the Calcutta D is of course much deeper and holds considerably more line than the other two reels. The comparatively narrow spool of the D hasn't been a problem for me, ...

Re: Short casting rods
I also remember the metal rods of the ‘50’s. I had a 6’ Heddon casting rod I used for many years (grew up bass fishing in the Midwest and never had a rod longer than 6’). The Heddon rod was fiberglass and had a detachable handle. It was the only rod I had as a kid. I still have it, and this 6’ rod i...

Re: Calcutta D swept handles??
Shimano has said it is the main reason there no thumbscrews on the reel. There isn’t enough clearance. And we know that that is bs cause the JDM 100 and 200 have thumbscrews. BTW, per our earlier discussion about the D model, I did finally get the JDM 100. I haven't used it much yet but I like it. ...

Re: Calcutta D swept handles??
To remove the handle of the Calcutta D it is of course necessary to first remove the bolt that attaches the handle to the reel. The star drag must then be removed to get to the handle. On the back of the star drag are two of the standard Shimano tiny pins and springs that are part of the clicker. Th...

Re: You get what you pay for usually, but .......
Yep, it is now all about marketing and the bottom line. That was the problem I had with manufacturer’s calling copolymer line ‘mono’. I mean, if copolymer line is mono, then flouro line is mono. So it’s all mono.
But we all know these are not the same type of line.
