Re: Smoothest gear grease.
What, no love for Super Lube synthetic anymore ? That & TSI 321 oil been doing right by me for years now. I think that I have a couple of tubes of Super Lube and a few ounces of TS 321 that you can have  TSI is awesome. Try this out; 8 parts 99% alcohol, 1 part TSI. Dip your spool bearings, dr...

Re: Suggestions for a Casting Dropshot Rod
With your sinker weight, the NRX 852C is my first thought 🤔 Up here on the shores of the St Lawrence I use baitcasters for drop shotting exclusively. Everyone can pick their poison but the advantages associated with a baitcaster made more sense to me. Pitching to cruising smallies as you described ...

Re: BEST reel for weightless fluke
I throw weightless flukes all the time for shallow smallies on the St Lawrence. Nothing compares to a DC reel. I'd have a hard time believing any non-dc reel would cast a weightless fluke as far especially if there is any head-wind involved. Based on this get yourself a Curado DC!!

Re: Daiwa Tournament SS Reel
Hello. I'm from Russia. I bought a new SS700 in America this year. I was surprised by the rather strong beating of the rotor. It is completely out of balance. Is this normal? This spinning reel has no balancing weight. The Whisker SS Tournament is a very old yet incredibly well built reel with exce...

Re: Casting Drop Shot Setups, What You Got ??
The St Lawrence River and Lake Ontario would be considered home waters and with giant smallmouth a plenty, my dropshot rigs get a ton of playing time. After numerous experiments over the past 20 years, including custom rods built on hotshot blanks, I have settled on two outfits. The NRX 852c gets th...

Re: New Loomis site
The website is brand new and still missing a bunch of models. They haven't completed the migration yet, for example the GLX Flip/Punch section doesn't list the 7'11" models, yet they have listed the JWR892C as a Flip/Punch rod. Give them some time and everything should be corrected.

Re: A Stark Contrast in Fishing Line : Berkley's Iron Silk
As a long time member, I am reasonably pleased to see a concerted effort to objectively compare many of the products that we are so passionate about. However in an effort to sincerely separate marketing claims from factual information the angling community would be better served if quantitative data...

Re: Need NRX opinions to complete my collection
The NRX 852c is a rod that I use so much and encourage others to try as well. My home body of water is the St Lawrence River at Waddington plus all of our clear, heavily vegetated largemouth lakes just North of the border. The 852c serves as my; (1) wacky senko rod (10lb FC - paired with 50mg, CH-Ci...

Re: NRX Jerkbait Rod
For hard jerkbaits the 852c is pretty hard to beat. Everything from Vision 110s to 78dd Squirrels. I have the 803 and it would be a tad stiff for my liking. Those little trebles rip-out easily enough, the 803 might be a heart breaker. If you're looking for a spinning jerkbait rod, the consensus is t...

Re: Would you spend more on a rod or reel?
As a tournament angler, my perspective may be different than those of the tackle collectors amongst the TT fraternity. I view my combos no differently than the way a professional mechanic views his tools. Though a gold plated hammer can be both appreciated and cherished, much more can be accomplishe...

Re: 7'6" IMX Spinning Rod + 4000 Stradic = Freshwater SHARK
Hey Steve, Awesome report as always, you are one of the fishiest guys I know. Well done again. I have been a huge fan of the HSR 9000's for years and have several in my arsenal. I noticed that handles are not stock on yours. Did you have custom one rolled for you? I made a couple of baitcasting drop...

Re: Shimano Beastmaster BL-2705, casting or spinning rod
Shimano employed a relatively straight forward code system to label their rods during that era. The first number was either a 1 or a 2. This identified if it was a casting rod (1) or a spinning rod (2). The next two numbers depicted the length, in this situation your rod was a 70 or a 7.0 ft rod For...

Re: SO, I trashed my prop yesterday
Be sure to check shaft to see if it might be bend. This is really important!!! Though the lower unit may have avoided a direct impact if there's that much damage to your prop, you probably bent the prop shaft. Unattended, left to wobble and vibrate, your lower unit will blow-up one day. Get it chec...

Re: Most abrasion resistant line (non flouro)
From all of my tests, CXX is still the bad boy when it comes to tensile strength and abrasion resistance. However I now have 2 years under my belt with Voltage (P-Line) and it is really impressing me. It appears to have similar abrasion resistance and strength but the memory issue which plagues all ...

Steve, I've seen the fish you catch religiously, you shouldn't be the one asking the questions, rather you should be the one answering them!! You have mastered more species than just about anyone I know. Folks ignore this request for help, he doesn't need the help
