Re: Drags. Grease or dry?
Wouldn't most of us have our drags locked down when we know we are fishing for something big like bass or stripers? A majority of the time, i fish for rockfish which I need to prevent them from sailing back into their rocky holes so I need that drag performance to react asap so they cannot pull away

Well good for me I have two of the same reels so I will try cals in one and leave the other dry and try an experiment.blakjack23 wrote:I honestly have always felt my drags were smoother dry. I stopped using Cals altogether now.

Re: I Need Help Choosing a Inshore Reel!
The battles are pretty nice but I got rid of mine due to the finish flaking off. Ive been using shimano saros reels and they are way better imo. Worth the 30$ more to me. I hate when new reels have paint flaking issues. It irritates me but that's why i stick with my Penn SS reels. No flaking no pro...

Re: Topwater Rod Recommendation Help!
My friend uses the St. Croix Avid AVC66MM and one of the 6'6" Falcon rods like the one you put in the poll. He uses these for chugs and poppers. Sorry can't comment much more since I don't use those kind of lures but I will say he's had more than enough success with bass in the 10-18lb range. Bette...

Re: Red... Why red? Fishing reel colors.
For me, its the dullness in color. If a color is just plain red or dull blue, its not appealing. I like when reel colors have some shine or sparkle or glitter to the color shade.I think the red shimano curado is plain ugly but newer green curds don't look so bad even though green is not my favorite ...

Re: Smoothness - impossible to be found?
I own several Revo's and have been very impressed with gear smoothness , even after2 or 3 years. I have gen2 premier, ltz, ltx, mgx, lt, and alt, all very smooth, especially the gen 2 premiers. x2 I just picked up a revo sx for practice and this thing is at least 2-3 years old. I cannot even hear t...

Re: Smoothness - impossible to be found?
All magnesium/zaion framed reels will 'feel' geary to a certain degree.Pop on your ipod headphones and the reels 'feel' smooth as hell  Remove that sense and you will be amazed...... :big grin: One helluva way to fix the problem. But, the sound of fishing and the nature just makes my fishing ...

Re: Smoothness - impossible to be found?
Unfortunately, we didn't change our own diapers when we were babies. So, reels dont maintain themselves. I learned that when I first got into fishing, I thought it was like, buy the best reel and it will stay like new forever. WRONG! Person buys a car, money out of your pocket for maintenance. Every...

Re: Beginning my own cleanings? Ardent butter oil?
I have yet to do in-depth research. Right now I am surfing through the internet to find forums and reviews on both bearings. This month I should have an idea of th complete project. I'll check out that super lube as well. Thanks

Re: Beginning my own cleanings? Ardent butter oil?
Thanks for your input. No offense but I'm not sold on the air bearings just yet. I will definitely do research on it. It usually takes me a few bandwagon opinions to get my attention on something. If others agree on the air bearings, I'd give them a try but for now they will go on my list. Thank yo...
