BigG wrote:I don't use backing because I don't like the extra knot on my stool. I usually just restool line on a differant reel. This works really well with braid. You can use the same line twice and still have fresh line.

You got a knot on your stool? You can get meds for that.

Like Angry says, you can't avoid loosing some colour. A light buff will be fine.

Re: Is this good or bad? I'm confused

It all seems a little overly complicated to me, but these days it's not difficult to get me confused. In any case I'm staying with Suffix 832 and tying proper knots line to leader. Seldom have a problem that way.

Don't be cruel, it's obvious the poor bloke has serious delusions of capability and may need professional help. There is also the possibility of self abuse. :^o

Re: Leader Length

I generally tie on a rod length of Flourocarbon leader and use either a Back to back Uni or an Imp Albright. In larger diameter lines I find the Uni to get a little too bulky whereas a well tied Improved Albright will pass through the guides a lot better. Generally speaking the clearer the water the...

Re: Baitcaster for distance

Mate, if that's what you want then I say go for it, get the Conquest. However if really long casts are what you need you may be better off thinking about good solid spin reel. I know you blokes in the US love your baitcasters, but they don't really excel at really long casts, particularly with only ...

Never tried Senko's mate, do you get them in from the US, or buy 'em locally?

Re: Which is more important - the reel or the rod?

This is the good thing about a forum like this one, you get all sorts of input from all sorts of places and fishing styles. I've seen a lot of footage of the dramatic hook sets the blokes in the US do on Largemouth, whereas it's not needed on the majority of our sportfish in Australia. Mycl's pretty...

Re: braid or fluoro for...

How about BOTH!?! I LOVE braid for my main line, 10-65# and then a good fluorocarbon leader. Use the Alberto/mod-Albright knot and you are golden! I think it's the best of both worlds. For example my jig setup is a 7'1" MH with a Steez baitcaster spooled with 50# braid and connected to a 8' fl...

Re: Braid and heavy weights

To stop braid digging in on a spool diameter is not always the best bet. I'd be looking a lot closer at profile. Braids like Suffix 832 are perfectly round and for that reason that's all I use on my bait cast reels. I'm going down as low as 10lb at the moment and having not problems. However I am th...

Re: Can some bass evolve to being completely uncatchable?

I can't speak for your Largemouth Bass but I know that most predatory fish like a moving target. Not only that, but it's possible that it just wasn't hungry. If your FC line was a bit heavy it may have been a factor, did you try going lighter?

Re: Which is more important - the reel or the rod?

Mikey, Sorry about the chum thing mate, I must have gone a bit Olde English there. You are absolutely correct though those fish are a real hoot to catch. Some would say that the Jack will out pull a Barra but they don't really get big enough to do that. They are very dirty fighters though and come o...

That's right, it seems to be mostly in Queensland, and the Fisheries Dept won't even allow them to be taken as food. Just catch as many as you can and put 'em in the bin. =D>

Re: Switch from Spinning Reels to BC

You fish with what you are comfortable with. I have a pal who hardly ever uses spin gear, bait casters all the way. He was in my boat one day with a spin rod and reel and I caught him trying to cast the spinner upside down! In Australia there is a lot of spin gear used but there is also no lack of b...
