Re: Fishing in Yosemite

Hey JIP!
Where in Yosemite do you go? My fishing bud just bought a house up in Groveland and we are planning on spending a lot of time up there this summer.

Thanks in advance

Re: What pound test

I really like 6lb co-polymer for my main line and 4 lb leader. But I have been broken off a couple of times. I have played with the idea with going with a larger line, but I think that it might take some of the excitement out of it.

Re: Starting out panfishing

They have these great Rebel Ant lures at http://www.cabelas.com

I have also found that fly (the fly fishing kind) work great with a tiny split shot about 6-8 inches above the fly work great for bluegills

Re: Farm Raised Salmon

I've noticed that at Alberson's and Safeway they now label on the salmon package "coloring added" That is just sick... they might as well just color it green and call them Hulk salmon!

Re: Kids and Mickey Mouse rod&reel

I think it is fine to start a kid on a close faced reel kit like a Mickey Mouse setup. I gave one of those to a friend of mine's 9 year old and he was a natural with it. One of the bonuses of that is that they are usually pretty cheap (under $10 at places like http://www.gofishin.com) and so you don...

Re: Fishing logs

I definitely log everytime I go out. It helps over the years to see trends at certain fishing spots. I log the times, the weather conditions, the moon phase, what kind of bait, leader length, even how far I cast (roughly) when I fish from the shore. I have found that it really helps me produce when ...

Re: Salmon Fishing bite in Monterey is still not hot

Wow 50lbers?!?!! I can't imagine the fight those puppies must put up. Yeah we used the cannonball release rigs. Sorry no GPS numbers. Our captain was Joey something or another, he got the boat from either his dad or his brother, not sure, but he is young, but a VERY good captain and really helpful. ...

Re: Bay Area Crappie

Well, I went to Lafayette last night 5/27/03. I went to the East Cove, the dock next to the dam. it was HOT HOT HOT! Even at 5pm it must have been 80 degrees. I tried the bobber and tube method. No crappies around there, or none that hit my line. But there were scads of bluegills. Most were not bigg...

Re: Buying tackle

Two great sites for online gear are:

http://www.tacklethief.com <= this is like of like "My Simon" where it goes out and finds deal on gear.

http://www.gofishin.com just has a lot of great deals on gear.

Re: Other good fishing websites?

If you look under hunting/fishing there are a LOT of links to good info here too:

But I do agree, that T3 rocks, plus you have the bonus of the Forum here!

Re: Bay Area Crappie

Aerotus, Nitro thanks for your posts. I have to admit, I have not actually seriously tried for crappie just yet. I have been trying to get as much info as I can. I have gotten all my gear and jigs ready, but just have not had time to go out. I usually fish on the west side docks, but I think that I ...

Re: PORTA-BOTE anyone?

I have been looking at the Porta-botes for a while. As far as I can tell, these things are really cool. All the reviews I have read have been really good and as far as I can tell, no one sells one once they have bought it. It is very hard to find a used one. That in itself speaks volumes to me. If y...
