Re: Give me the lowdown on building handle on carbon tube

oh, and Chinese 15mm tube is 15mm OD spot on, not like the naughty 15.28mm UK stuff. You're looking at 33 grams per 50cm length of 13IDx15OD tube. 15-20grams or so for a complete handle and 8-10grams for just backing out a reel seat. I still had to bump out the butt cap with 8 or so grams of lead to...

Re: Give me the lowdown on building handle on carbon tube

I did this recently with a Fuji TVSTS. My reasons: 1. was a rebuild converting casting to spinning and the blank handle area was very tatty. 2. needed to extend the rod by 3 inches (was previously cut down by this much) 3. You have to use a tube for the TVSTS reel seat (unless your blank is massive)...

Re: Fast action rod, with flexible tip

A friend of mine was fishing with a megabass rod the other day. I think that was 6'3". It was the most extraordinary rod I've ever seen. The tip, the first 8-12" was really light and flexible, but after that it became a good stiff med or even med heavy rod. Quite amazing. We were managing to cast 2...

No?

If the rod is capable of going to very small weights (and it is) then this is more than equal to it IME.

Re: Next MB/anything else? purchase advice

How is the backbone? One of the things I'd like to use it for is Zander (like Walleye) they require a serious hookset with their bony mouths and the ability to spit lures. The hedgehog is actually pretty good at this because it gets into a very stiff butt quite quickly (just the tip is a little too ...

Re: Next MB/anything else? purchase advice

Thank you guys, for such detail. Food for thought there! And the wallet. I'm looking at the x4 F-368x4 as a contender based on the action you describe, Mitch. Anything too close to the HH and I won't use one or the other as much which would be a shame. Even though I strongly considered the cliffhang...

Next MB/anything else? purchase advice

Hi guys, I have an X4 F2.5-64X4 which seems tailor made for the type of fishing I do 80% of the time. It's surprisingly versatile and has performed admirably when pushed either side of it's sweet spot with either weight or method. It does have the very delicate solid tip, which characterises the rod...

Re: Looking for a compact travel Rod

Hi Ethan, I have both the MC GEC 4pc rods. They come out a bit tip-heavy so I put some lead in the butt to balance. Not the most sensitive of rods, but using braid seems to negate that problem to a certain extent. The guides and reel seats are good, and the blanks actions are fine for what they are....

And it does, admirably. Very smooth reel to use as well. :)

Re: 68pxl/zonda or metaniums need everyone's input

I'll be testing my new Met plus yumeya shallow spool in the morning hopefully. Initial spool inertia tests are very favourable though it is a couple of grams heavier than my usual finesse spools. I wanted a reel I could use for multiple applications just by swapping the spool and line around, if it ...

Re: Megabass travel rods

Thanks man.
I'd looked at the F3-72X4S-SS but hesitated too long and now they don't seem to be in stock anywhere.
Plus it's a spinning rod and I'm not a big fan of fixed spool reels. If it's an exceptionally well balanced and crisp rod I'd still try it.

Re: Megabass travel rods

Whatever you can tell me! :D

I'm particularly interested in the action and how well it fishes at the lower end of it's ratings. I really want a travel rod that's good for jigging SPs, with a fast/x-fast action and such things don't really exist from what I've seen so far.

Has anyone handled the F4-66X4-SS yet!?
