The NRX is a G Loomis blank which is now owned by Shimano. Garry Loomis now owns North Fork Composites. You do know NFC is a vary expensive blank to start cutting on. If you do no warranty. Not to say NFC is not a good blank. If there is some scaring or area where is a thread covering marks he can use a product by Bullard called CPXer it is a thin rod finish that is user friendly

You can change the style of guide on any rod. I have been removing guides for to many years. This is how I go about it. You may want to call Josh at Lamiglas, Josh is their designer now sense Todd left a couple of years ago. Also remember the number/model change might be because of the new graphites they are now using.

How long is your rod, power and action? I never start a build without a reel. Being that no two blanks work the same you need to do a static pressure test to define where the guides should be placed.
