Re: kistler 2023

Yeah… looked through our reviews.. the He3 was a Northfork blank… current Gen is sourced from overseas - likely China - but very good. Worth a shot in my opinion.

Re: When's the last time....

Happens to me a few times a year usually when fishing a new reel and I forget to turn the brakes all the way up on the first cast. You'd think after close to 20 years doing this, I'd remember, but noooo  Recently, I've discovered, if I open the sideplate and slide the spool out, I can pull the ...

Re: Conquest BFS 2023

The aluminum they machine the reel out of has undergone a process of pressing the molecules of the alloy closer together to make a stronger more dense material than cast through extrusion. Its sort of like a forgeing. Yah... we went through that kind of in the follow on comments :) ... all good :)

Re: kistler 2023

What was the model? If you visit their website, it should be up to date with their latest lines and offerings. Kistler announces everything during ICAST or in that time frame and don't normally have anything else new during the early part of the calendar year.

Re: Conquest BFS 2023

They must do multiple passes and have some sort of 3D process now. I had a picture of the process of the Calcutta B series from way back when, it was a multi pass system and showed the removal of the inner spool void and stamping etc. Yeah… the tooling must be insane… here I was picturing in my hea...

The forged aluminium must absorb the mechanical resonance in them, other than the cast aluminium frames.
Most round reels are machined from a single piece of metal... forging is how a something like a sword is made by heating and reheating the metal and pounding it into shape. :)
