Re: —Daiwa Catalina TW 4.9:1–

How do the two differ in braking profile? The HD is fixed inductor and the Catalina is Magforce Z, correct? Correct - the new Zillion HD has a fixed inductor and Catalina TW is Magforce Z. Both are very capable casters but the Zillion HD has a more consistent, controlled feel all the way through th...

Re: Steez SV TW frame swap

By the time you purchase a frame, gear side plate, palm side plate, latch for palm side plate, and gear set, you’ll be better off selling your Steez A and purchasing a Steez SV TW I don’t believe the Steez A palm side plate is compatible to the Steez SV TW frame, and truthfully, without changing the...

Re: Screeching Zillion HD

Well I thought the drop of oil took care of it but I probably just could not hear it on the river- Tore the reel down today for a thorough cleaning and lube, put it back together and there's that screech again really only noticeable on a really "hard" cast. Reel was new this fall and probably put 2...

Re: Bearings?????

If you don't mind the rough feel and loud noise from them, then you will be ok. Personally, I wouldn't put them in any reel, much less my own. Bearings are definitely one of the items that you get what you pay for.

Re: Og steez

That pin you are referring to doesn’t lock in like the spool shaft pin. It is simply a guide pin to keep the inductor from turning.

Re: TD Fuego Spools

I recently picked up another 100M spool from Adam for a Zillion project. Looks like I'm going to have to try the rotor and spring swap. Where are you guys sourcing the R+ rotor? Does Daiwa USA have them? or can dem good ol boys in Bama find them? Tackle trap had them not to long ago but I didn't bu...

Re: So who bought the ZPI Alcance?

Just shy of a full blown train wreck is what the first one was. A guide friend from Florida bought one to check out. Upon receiving the reel he notices the line guide would not travel. It was sent to me, and the pictures tell the story. Missing parts, under lubed, hot sauce grease, not even ZPI bear...

Re: Supertuning expectations

Depends on your idea of what super tuning is. My ultimate goal when I tune a reel is for smooth effortless use. From clutch engagement, to casting performance, to drag performance. With the move to use more and more plastic in reels, there is less to be polished, but there are still some parts than ...

Re: Need help on drag star

Sounds like some misalignment upon installation. 1. Make sure the flat side on the nut is parallel with the flat side on the drive shaft. 2. Line the flat side of the clicker plate up with the flat side inside the drag star. 3. Install drag star and be sure the shoulder of the driveshaft passes thro...

Re: Casting + Internal Damage

A new gear set and spool pin should solve the issue you’re having, but I would also double check both of the pinion support bearings. I’ve seen these bearings get rough after having a reel re engage mid cast, and I believe it’s due to shock loading of the gear and or bearings.

Re: Calling all Steez SV TW Experts

Sounds like the inductor ramp is broken. Pull your spool out, and from the bearing side, you should see 2 plastic tabs coming through from the inductor side. If you do not see them, then it’s sheared off. You can also verify by turning the inductor by hand. When it reaches the point that it hits the...

Re: ZPI Reel?

Is it possible the owner of this BNIB reel applied the Hot Sauce to the internals in an attempt to figure out what the problem was? ZPI carries their own grease designed for baitcasters, why would they use Hot Sauce? ZPI grease would cost them next to nothing and Hot Sauce isn't cheap. I believe th...

Re: ZPI Reel?

For any of you who may be curious, I was sent a brand new in the box Alcance NS to be repaired. Out of the box the worm gear was not turning. Upon opening the reel, it was found that the idler gear was completely left out of the reel. Further more, IMO this is nothing special, other than the spool. ...

Re: Aerosal Spray for Cleaning Bearings

Again, agree to disagree. Introducing excess heat to a bearing by spinning it at high speeds while dry can be detrimental to a bearing. It causes surface pitting, galding, etc. Your method works for you, just as my method works for me, and Alan Tanis method works for him. I’m by no means saying my w...
