Re: Metanium vs Chronarch

Long time Shimano user until a couple of years ago. Seems like the trend is to buy Shimano's at $300 to $400 and then change gears and beraings and do an immediate grease change to make them worth the $300-$400. I gradually transitioned over to Daiwa due to these issues. Just sold my last Mets. To ...

Re: Bantam MGL Who has their hands on one?

I think this is going to be the best Shimano reel that has been released in a decade! +1 on this! it will be a big winner for Shimano, I have been a Shimano die hard for the last 25 years, but I have moved to Daiwa on my last 5 or 6+ reels, I'm done with Shimano spinning reels until the next Genera...

Re: Metanium vs Chronarch

The Tackle tour review on the Met. MGL was incomplete and showed many details of the Chronarch not the Metanium they were testing... The lower gear ratio Chronarchs I have seen all had the shorter handle? knob bearings are one place I notice a difference, the levelwind I did not notice when I upgra...

Re: Metanium vs Chronarch

The Met and Chronarch have the same size handles, the low and HG ratio reels use the standard handle and the XG's get the longer 96mm. Met MGL's will accept one bearing on the levelwind as well. the main difference is Brass Vs Aluminum drive gear and Ci4+ vs magnesium frame and a higher bearing coun...

Re: Curado K gears

One question. Do the 13 and MGL Mets both use the same pinion gear? No they don't you have to order the specific one for each reel. Kurt That's odd, the main gear is interchangeable, and both pinions are compatible, but not compatible with the respective reels which can both use the same main gear....

Re: pros/cons, steez sv tws, us or jdm model?

I buy both USDM and JDM reels and I have received several Lemons from the JDM market retailers, an Antaries 151HG it was rough as hell!, Met. MGL XG again rough as hell and a C4i+ with severe binding. The people that assembled those reels must have never checked them, or some of the retailers are se...

Re: pros/cons, steez sv tws, us or jdm model?

Gear ratio is the #1 item for me, why Daiwa does not bring the high speed versions of their higher end reels to the USA is a mystery to me ](*,)

Re: Bantam MGL Who has their hands on one?

I have a met MGL. It's a fine reel. I would take the bantam MGL over a met any day of the week. All aluminum reel is the way to go. Why? I have caught a whole lot of Salmon on two different Metaniums and they have never skipped a beat and are literaly still like new, I have lots of Aluminum reels a...

Re: Bantam MGL Who has their hands on one?

I think the Bantam is great, but if they are removing key bearings, and not giving any real light lure casting advantages, I don't see why (for me at least) the Chronarch MGL wouldn't be better. The 3 biggest bass I have ever caught have been on a Stradic Ci4+FA (2 fish) and a junker tiny 500 size ...

I think somebody posted something about the bearing count might be different but I have not looked myself.

Re: Curado K gears

Only the drive gear is compatible you still need a Met. pinion and the Curado handle side drag washer. My XG's have never been smoother although I have not had them on the water yet but from what I can tell so far I'm all smiles :D

Re: Steez SV (non TW)

Side by side Met MGL/13 Vs Steez SV (Non TW) the Steez is smaller in just about all respects. I can get my hand much further around it than with my Mets. Kurt Wow, good to know didn’t realize it was that small. Must be a lot smaller then a Zillion SV TW then. Thanks! It's much smaller than a Tat. C...
