Re: Do you trust aluminum gears?
I don't trust aluminum gears. Just too many bad experience's with aluminum framed handguns. I'll stick with brass.

Re: Daiwa Customer Service
They have always been friendly to me and sent me minor parts for free. Something I've never gotten from Shimano, especially the friendly part.

Beautiful. I have 4 2500CIAR's in as new condition that Jerry Foran super tuned for me. They are my most prized possessions.

Re: Classic Abu Reel
Very nice. I have 4 2500c's but my only 1500 has a tweaked frame so is waiting for Shimormura to come out with one of his custom frames. If Pure Fishing had an ounce of intelligence they'd make another re-addition of these, there are a lot of us who would pay stupid money for more of them.

Re: No Shimano, No Daiwa
I guess I'd use the same pre 1980's Ambassadeur 4500 and 2500C's I've always used instead of the almighty gods of engineered obsolescence.

Re: Shimano stradic 4000 fh pinion and drive gear?
That's not just Shimano, all the reel companies are constantly changing their reel lineup so it's difficult to keep parts on so many different models. Huummppf... all my casting reels are mid 70's vintage and Abu still offers a parts inventory for me. I guess that's the difference in customer inter...

Re: Shimano stradic 4000 fh pinion and drive gear?
That is the story of every shimano I ever owned and why I don't own any now or in the future. Planned obsolescence, continuous change under a pretense of technology and never supporting the consumer after model changes is their motto.

Re: Daiwa Tatula in Saltwater
Tried it and returned it after one trip. Line guide on the reel could not cope with leader knots. I usually keep a very long leader, 20 to 30lb. mono that is surgeons knotted to 12 or 14lb. mono main line.

Re: 100 size reels for traps
I guess maybe it depends on the size of the traps. I use a couple of Ambassadeur 2500CI's to throw 1/4, 1/2 and the 3/8oz. floating traps. No trouble using mono and Fireline Crystal.

Re: ABU GARCIA CARDINAL 3R
Made in Sweden expressly for Japan distributor DS, note the DS sticker on the body. Very Nice. Mr. Ambassadeur had one of the special made for him editions on his auction page recently but in tan if I remember right. Just seems fit for a Ned Rig doesnt it?

Re: What inshore reel?
More than half of floridas inshore is flats. Theres a reason most use spinning. Freelining unweighted live bait. Throwing weightless plastics or with a head under 1/4oz. Casting is great for bull reds in the Jax shipping channel and throwing a spook under mangrove limbs but other than that spinning ...

Re: What inshore reel?
Ive been fishing inshore s.w. fl. for over 40 years. Ive gone through almost all brands of baitcasters. The freshwater Revo's couldn't muster the brackish water let alone salty even with religious after trip care. The Inshore version didn't have a tough finish, even kept inside its reel cover and tr...
